I was on reddit.com the other day and stumbled upon this neurological condition called synesthesia and was BLOWN AWAY.
It's basically when a stimulus perceived by one sense causes an automatic perception by another sense. There's many different types; like mentally perceiving letters or numbers in certain colors or textures, or days of the week as male or female. There's some crazy types.
I learned that I have space-time synesthesia, where I think of time spatially. Up until I learned of this condition, I thought everyone thought of time this way. In my head I watch myself move counterclockwise around this oval calendar year with winter at the top and summer at the bottom as time passes. I have three-dimensional representations of a week loop, month, and years in a timeline.
I was wondering if any of you RJers have heard of this. I think it's somewhere around 1 in 20 people having some type of synesthesia. If any of you have it, how do you guys perceive the world around you?!

I gots lots of this! Grapheme-color: letters, words, and numbers as colors; sound-color: I "see" sounds as different shapes/colors...especially with music; space-time: similar to you, I perceive days/weeks/years/time in a very ordered, 3-dimensional, cyclical fashion- similar to this one, most of my thoughts occur in the form of "shapes" in a kinda "map"... I dunno how to really describe it :/

I choose all of my screen names based on what they look like to me icon_smile.gif

(the 'b' is actually a different color, but it's color isn't an option here...)
There's kind of a "shape" that's associated with the sn as a whole, too...but I can't really post that here... :/

I realized I had this a few years ago when one of my professors was talking about it. I thought it was normal too.

This guy Daniel Tammet has linguistic, numerical and visual synesthesia. It's a worthwhile video to look at if you're interested in the condition.
I thought it was a lot more rarer though.

David is also gay! He's awesome, I've heard him speak several times.

    Peace,

You mean the guy, Daniel, in the video I posted? He's pretty hot. I love how he speaks.

Whoa! My mental calendar moves counterclockwise but it's more u-shaped with Jan and Dec separated a the top. And i do taste colors. Rainbows taste like a box of Runts, a bit overwhelming all at once...esp since violet is quite bitter.
