Today I was at school, I am taking two college classes, and it was alittle before the second class so my friend and I went to the cafeteria. Well this one guy was there and he is on the baseball team at the school and is "popular" and he knows my friend so he invited him over to sit with him. Well it as going ok until one kid came into the cafeteria and he is slower and keeps to himself and the big shot guy kept making remarks about him being a "retard" and all that jazz. I was getting pretty fed up with him so I told him nicely to stop but he wouldn't and my friend said nothing,

Well the kid got up and the guy threw some of his soda on the kid getting him pretty soaked and he ran out of the cafeteria to the bathroom. I said a few choice words to the guy and went to find the poor guy sitting in the bathroom crying. I helped him get dried off and gave him my sweater I had brought with me to wear and I went back to the cafeteria with him and he and I sat together and chatted until my class.

I have not talked to my friend since then beacuse I was mad that he just satthere and let this idiot dothis. There weren;t alot of perople in the cafeteria but still to think a guy like that is in college is kinda scary. Sorry for this pretty pointless thread but it annoys me how nasty and cruel people can be. It just annoyed me all day so I figured I'd share lol.

It's 2011. We don't tolerate that shit anymore. Report the bullying to the school authorities and let them deal with the asshole accordingly.

I applaud what you did. I would have done the very same thing plus I would had walked to the butt head and I would had confront him face to face and if things would had gone further than a simple chat... I would have gone much further too.

I'm sorry to say this, but your friend is a coward and you should let him know of your displeasure.

I agree with Ariodante- you should report that bully. It's very nice that you were so kind and helpful icon_smile.gif I'm sure you made the "slower" kid feel much better icon_smile.gif

    wow... Good on you!

I don't think that kind of situation would ever happen at an Australian university. That's really fucked up.

icon_sad.gif this happened in college? Apparently the mentality of kids are maturing slower these days. I would think this would only happen in middle school.

You did the right thing. I thank you for being so nice to the poor kid. icon_smile.gif

Why are people jerks? Some do it to hide their own insecurities, some do it because they're bored, and some are just evil and get a kick out of it.

You know I really want to open this subject up and point out a few things but it's too early to play Devil's Advocate so I'll just say kudos to you for saying something and leave it at that.

If the person is actually mentally handicapped then it should be reported. My college would not allow discrimination and the bully would be kicked off campus and expelled.

But.....if the guy is there on a scholarship for a sport that makes money for the college....they may just do a slap on the hand. Maybe that's why this guy acts like a jerk and is immature....he might not even have to get passing grades.

Agreed. Maybe the college I went to was out of the norm, but that guy wouldn't have been able to get away with that. He would have had his ass beaten pretty quickly by several people. I was in New England, much like yourself. I'm surprised you guys let him do that. Talk to the dean about it.

It's sad that shit like this still happens. I guess with ignored, uneducated people in this world it will continue. You did the right thing, good job. This behavior happens because there is no discipline and resepct in this world. People feel good about themselves for buddying or picking on a person who looks week. It happened to me and I'm sure it has happened to most of us. All we can do is stand up for those who can't stand up for themselves. Then maybe this type of shit will stop.

It is always surprising how many bullies there are in the world, and yes, there are even bully adults.

First, you did the right thing. I know you probably wanted to smack the crap out of him, but violence is not always the answer and is only a momentary fix.

Do something more permanant. Document the time and date and keep documenting. And report it to appropriate authorities and follow up.

Befriend the victim too. Seems you are on your way to doing that. If he has special needs, he may not understand or know how to make friends. You don't have to call him weekly, but a friendly smile and a warm invite to sit at a cafeteria mean VOLUMES to a person with special needs. Ask questions. Make sure he's getting support.

There are three parties in a bullying situation. The victim, the bully and the bystanders. The bystanders are the ones where the trouble begins and ends. You have taken the correct step to being more than a bystander. Your friend? Not so much. Remember, he probably doesn't get it. Here's an idea. Talk to your popular baseball pal. Don't turn him out. If he truly is your friend, he'll be receptive. If he isn't, well, that'll explain much.

Let him know how you feel and let him know what it's like to be a victim. He might be in a position to stop the bullying from the idiot third party.

Hang in there. I'm a teacher on the other side of the screen and I seem to have to deal with this more and more. Worse, I'm in a very "red" state and county. It is a mess.

    Peace,
    Bardy

That was really kind and courageous of you to stand up for someone else!! I'm hot listing you because of this. A lot of people would just sit there and let the kid get bullied and not do a thing about it which I think is just as worse as being the bully. You should definitely report the bully to school authorities and explain what happened.

I'm sure the media would love to hear about a situation where a bully was getting off scot free because he was a sports asset to a school, and I'd be damn well sure to mention it to the school when reporting the incident.

You can't let these things go unpunished. You can't allow any degree of tolerance for them. Abusing someone for their leisure pleasure is NOT ok.

Well done! The bitch jock was an absolute cunt and good for you for calling him out. I would have ripped the flesh from his face and pissed on it.

And I´m proud of you for going and being nice to that kid. I hope the jock guy gets bleeding haemorrhoids and constipation.
