Some say, "Don't ask don't tell what the hell!"

By this time next year it'll be a non-issue.

It should have been repealed immediately and not have a 60 day delay. RIP Don't Ask Don't Tell!!!

Now the Army can post signs to what they've been doing for decades:

Circle Jerk behind Mess Hall: 9:00 p.m.

I got out of the Marine Corps in April. During the month of March, the govt. started the first 60 day review. Which is nothing more than classes explaining what is changing, what isn't changing, and consequences towards actions. The review process was superiors seeing the reactions of military personnel and seeing if everyone is ok with the changes.

They were not. Which is why there is a second review. Technically, it is the third. The first wasn't really a review. It was like a "hey guys, the president just signed the repeal. Prepare for changes."

I'll believe it when it finally happens, but i'm more curious as to how there going to deal with a lot of the other crap like since the government doesn't recognize gay marriage would married gay couples still be able to collect benefits? or even live with each other on post (assuming there both in the service)?

This already happens but more along the lines of living off base as "roommates". The other stuff will take a while to go into effect on account of there has not been any word about an openly gay married couple. When it happens then the military will deal with it. I don't know if you noticed but our military is very reactive instead of proactive...

Of course the same-sex partners of those in the military can still not get benefits the way a spouse of someone in the military can, not because of a military policy but because of the same policy that prevents this for same-sex partners of civilian federal employees.

In answer to the OP, I am not sure how one could perceive it, other than extremely positively.

Our ban in the UK was lifted in 2000. As soon as same sex 'civil partnerships' became lawful in 2004, the UK armed forces recognised them. Military civil partners now have equal rights with military married partners. It could be a little trickier in the US because of your federal system of government. I think as soon as a majority of states (ie 26) allow same sex marriage, the US armed forces will have to grant equal rights to same sex couples, regardless of posting location. They may even do it before then, but I think they will let the dust settle on DADT first.
