Getting Tested -- Waiting on Results

I was just recently tested for the first time. I've had no symptoms of anything, I just decided that if I'm going to be sexually active I should also be a responsible adult and be sexually aware of my health status.

Since I won't know the results for a week, I was wondering should I continue to being sexually active while waiting or should I refrain from sexual activity until the test comes back?

In the event that I did have anything, I don't want to have to tell someone they got it from me knowing that if I had just waited a week they would be risk free. It's just not something I want to deal with, but I also don't want to miss any opportunities that arise because I'm being nervous and anxious. Do most guys usually have sex while waiting for results??

Can one assume that you meant an HIV test or did you have a full screening done? Reason I ask is if its an HIV test than you can always go to your local GLBT or health dept and have a 20 min test done and that would give you your results. Other questions I have would be...are there concerns you have? Are you playing safe? If you are then I would say that you would be able to continue with your normal activity.

A lot of people have sex while waiting for results.... that doesnt make it responsible. lol. I never would/have, just because I don't like the idea. I have too much anxiety about it. It's better to just wait and be sure than to have to deal with the mess and drama that would follow you accidentally transmitting an STD to someone else.

First: Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for being enough of a man to get tested. There are so many people who don't get tested regularly, and that's just a fucking travesty.

To answer your question, though, I think it would be best to wait for your results before having sex again. Even if you're religious about safety, there's always the chance you can pick something up in that week between test and result. If you abstain while waiting for results, though, then you'll know they're accurate, and you can take whatever action is appropriate.

Well waiting the week and testing neg doesn't exactly mean you are risk free. There's a 3 month time period when you can have the virus and still test negative for it, which is why they say you should be tested every 3 months. As long as you play safe I wouldn't worry about it. Unfortunately I don't have sex enough to have to worry about waiting the week till I get the results... I mean damn! How many opportunities do you get a week?!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback. To answer your questions, I had a full screening done which is why it's taking a week.

I am aware that there is approx. a 3 month time period to produce sufficient antibodies for HIV and that the test does not give full proof results; however, HIV isn't my main concern since I've always played safe and even if I were to give/receive head while positive, the the risk of contracting or spreading it through oral sex would still be minimal.

I've decided to just wait. A week isn't that long anyway, I should be fine.

This has been my motto as well. While I'm waiting. It usually takes 3 days for the tests from my doctor to come back.

I get the STD check. My insurance only covers a portion of it, but it is a small price to pay to have the knowledge.

I need to make an appointment this week to see my doctor about other things and while I'm there, it's nice to say. Ok.. I've been active, let's get checked!

Have a great weekend! And keep it in your pants for another 6 days! icon_razz.gif
