Was driving home the other day and got behind a guy going 35 in a 45 zone. Sure I tailgated some and could not get into the next lane (rush hour traffic). Next thing I know the car in front of me is coming to a stop and turning, WITH NO BRAKE LIGHTS OR TRUN SIGNAL!! Thankfully there was a break in the traffic next to me and I was able to swerve around before I hit the guy. As I passed by THE DRIVE GAVE ME THE FINGER WTF!!!!

see ok, so if there was rush hr traffic, why was it necessary for him to go faster? You just said you couldn't merge. I see holes in your story. Eitherway, don't tail because you have no idea what equipment the car infront is running. If someone has a huge brake kit, they'll simply downshift, clutch in, slam their brakes, make you panic and swerve into another car, or get four flatspots or end up in a ditch, at the same time while you nose dive, they ll pop the clutch out and gun it, laughing at the race car driver who needs to tail and is now just fucked his own ride.Just saying.

If your car's break lights don't work it's illegal to drive, same goes for turn signal....he should have have been on the road in the first place. Going under the speed limit in some states is also illegal...no person shall drive upon a highway at such a slow speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, unless the reduced speed is necessary for safe operation, because of a grade...

going 10 under on a highway during rush hour would count as illegal.

Everyone else was going the speed limit but him and the line of cars behind him.

You could have noted the license plate number and called the police traffic authority and spoken about the vehicle hazard the guy was driving in. That way the police can contact him and either give him a ticket or a demerit point.

Like how you guys like to point fingers....like to meet one of you who has never tailgated before. Tailgating is when a car can not enter between you and the driver ahead of you easily and safely...that means if you are going 5mph and you don't have more then on car length between you and the car ahead of you then you are tailgating.

Now that I looked up the law glad to know that everyone on the highway during rush hour should be in jail and the guy driving w no break lights is totally in the right to be on the road illegally.

Also not going to follow a guy who gave me the finger into a wal-mart parking lot to get his licens plate number,

    Rant i know....

Maybe he was new to the area and following someone's directions or mapquest? Hence the slow driving and the need to abruptly turn onto a street. Sometimes those street signs are too small to read until it's time to turn...

That's why try to get away from or pass by cars that have obvious non-working brake lights. Or those morons that apply really dark tint film to their brake lights.

Ok, he had no brake lights or signal, if you didn t tail, it wouldn t matter.

Next part, you should always have alteast 2 car lenghts period. If i can see your hood , windshield and face and not your headlights, youre in for a world of shit. Also, if you are tailing and some fuckcrap behind you is tailing, do the math. Think a little.

I don't play on the road but fuckwads who tail me for a long period of time get their underwear soiled. I have a 4 pot big brake kit, something you can't notice easily. Believe me, I can slam my brakes, make you lose control and wreck and take off at the exact same time. You won t even get near my car, and you will be left there in a accident or off the road or with four flatspots.

Is it worth it to aggrivate others to you who have done nothing but wanted to travel home?

No. Didn't see anything about break lights...

His brake lights may have been broken and he didn't know it.

Even in rush hour, you don't have to tailgate someone. It is possible to leave a gap between you and the car infront of you just in case something happens during rush hour.

What was the point of tailgating him in the first place? It doesn't really motivate anyone (at least me) to drive faster. You should always be prepared for something to go wrong in front of you, so tailgating is not a wise decision at any time.

idk. I m not a fan or stock lights being tinted, its better to get oem smoked or aftermarket smoked lights that function, but i still think those would be okish, it looks like a 50% tint not more

I was far enought back for him to see my head lights, that still considered tail gateing and I would not have had to swerve if he had break lights and I would have known he was breaking...its like a car that is stopped on a road when it should be moving, you don't notice till you are closeing the distance.

I think people get your points but are also making counterpoints. Driving slowly and having no break lights are passive, generalized threats not aimed at you whereas you "tailgating " him was an aggressive act targeting him. Don't get me wrong, I would've done the same as you if I were in your car, especially during rush hour. But, I also would've given you the finger if I were the other driver. I expect the finger when I tailgate. Were you really that surprised?

Actually never gotten the finger b4 for tailgating someone...if i rode their ass yes, but not for at least 1 car length back (still tailgating) and only almost hit them when they breaked w no form of warning.

Being from Jersey I don't let that shit phase me. I just assume they suck at driving (and life), flip them off back, and curse them out like they can actually hear what I'm saying.

If you tail gate someone that's what you gonna get. Consider yourself lucky the other driver didn't "test" his breaks and you slamming into him/her and then you would be bitchin' about how it was the other driver's fault.

Highway laws for speed are posted in every road in the U.S. (assuming you are in the U.S.) with a Minimum and max limit speed. If they're no minimum speed limit posted it is to assume the minimum speed allowed is 5-under the max.

Having faulty equipment is illegal but also tailgating.
