Not sure if this has been covered on RJ, but I just saw where Beyonce´is set to star in the remake of "A STAR IS BORN" to be directed by Clint Eastwood. Rumor has it Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks to play the male lead played by Kris Kristoferson in the Barbra Streisand version.

    http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2011/07/22/beyonce-star-is-born/

I'll never forget my freshmen year at ASU when attending the concert (which cost $3.50) to see Barbra Streisand film the concert scenes for "A Star Is Born" in Sun Devil stadium. We had to be there at 8am and over 50,000 people showed up. It was pretty amazing with Kris Kristofferson, Santana, and others. It was a long day. At one point Barbra Streisand came out and said "Hey you motherfuckers, are you having a good time?". Later, Peter Frampton closed the show.

The lead character played (Esther Hoffman) first by Judy Garland, and later by Barbra Streisand in the remake. Here is the final # performed by Streisand which remains one of her most riveting screen performances....

As for Beyonce´getting hate, so did Streisand. Who cares. It's surely going to be a huge hit, epspecially with Clint Eastwood directing. I do think Will Smith would be a better choice for the male lead.

I think she could be with the right vehicle. I thought she did fine in "Dreamgirls". If anyone can pull an Oscar-worthy performance out of her, Clint Eastwood can. It's also a classic Hollywood story that is tailor-made for her type of talent.

actually, i thought she completely underwhelmed in dream girls. she was head and shoulders out-performed and out-acted by jennifer hudson (same went for jamie fox in regard to eddie murphy). she wasn't bad, but she clearly seemed like a performer and not an actress nor a singer.

True, though with a performance as stunning as Jennifer Hudson's, almost anyone would have paled in comparison

I'll stay with Judy Garland! Beyonce's acting is mediocre at best. So is her singing.

I'd be trashing this idea if it weren't for Clint Eastwood.

    vs.

She's got dead eyes. She can sing, but she can't really deliver on screen. Maybe Clint can squeeze it out of her.

I disagree. Beyonce´is arguably one of the most visually stunning women to watch in music videos today. She always delivers the goods and she knows how to work a camera, and she does it with confidence and attitude. Pair her in the right role with the right director and I believe it could be electrifying. I'll go out on a limb and predict that this remake of "A Star Is Born", with Eastwood directing, will be a smash hit with multiple Oscar nominations.

The dead eyes comment was exclusively meant for that one scene I posted. Judy's big scene versus Beyonce's big scene. Didn't think Beyonce's was all that touching or emotional. But you may very well be correct and this new one will be awesome. Time will tell.

Beyonce is a great singer but she doesn't have a great voice. Christina Aguilera has a great voice but she is not great singer. Mariah has great voice but she is not that best singer. Barbara Streisand has a great voice and she is a great singer. There are always two parts to singing. The way Beyonce voice sounds distracts from her acting. When you look at Beyonce you will think she have a sweet sounding voice but when she talks this heavy voice comes out with some southern drawl. But this is just my opinion

It's Judy, hands down. I reviewed several clips of a Star is Born, including Babs..Reviewed Beyonce just to be fair.
I even went so far as too review several performances of pop stars of today.
    A capella.
Christina is a true vocalist. Gaga, proved her point on Howard Stern. Brit, well...not so much, Madonna, technically, not so much, Beyonce, she's a good entertainer with the hair, the shakes and wiggles...the voice is ok..
Babs, she is Legend, Judy, as we know.

I haven't seen the Barbra version, but have seen the Judy Garland version and it is great. Beyonce is a great actress when she wants to be and her voice is great too, so I'll definitely check this out!

You should check out the Barbra Streisand version first -- it's got some great music and Barbra Streisand was amazing in it. I'm sure they will modernize the new version with Beyonce´to make it every visual and entertaining as well. It's a classic Hollywood story, which is why it has been remade so many times.

Yeah, it's definitely on my queue! I think Barbra has an amazing voice and her acting is great as well (THE WAY WE WERE is one of my favorite films).

I read an article where Beyonce says that she is honored to be chosen for this as every generation one woman is picked to play this role and represent that generation. I think she very well deserves that honor!

I must say Beyonce is the michael jackson of performing. No one can perform like her that take real talent. Not many people can dance and sing great at the same time.

In my opinion, with regards to their characters, of course she was "out acted."

Jenifer Hudson was the loud obnoxious one who was being taken advantage of. Beyonce was playing the average, more marketable one who had to fuck over her friend to get where she wanted to go, and then she was not able to un-do what she did. She played her role well, as did J-Hud.

I think Beyonce has an amazing voice, she controls the stage (and on occasion the camera( GOLD MEMBER haha)), and as mentioned before, with Clint Eastwood directing it should be a great film.
