The new Thundercats premiered tonight and this is not your….well your Thundercats. Besides the characters the show is nothing light the original and I really enjoyed watching it. Has a very “grown-up” feel in many ways while still staying kid friendly. Reminded me a lot of the Avatar series in that respect. Will be interesting to see were the series goes and what type of messages they try to give to the audience.

Who else caught the premier? What did you think?

I read one of my friends post on facebook about it. They didn't seem impressed, and they are really into anime. I'll give it a shot if i can find it online.

I watched it and was really impressed. I grew up watching the original series and am a big enough dork that I have them on dvd. I liked the story which we all kind of knew already, the animation was ok, it's what most new shows are like now. I will keep watching (dvr) and think it will be great.

It's not a anime it's a cartoon and therefore you should not expect the same thing.

Like how Snarf does not talk this time, not more annoying whining!

If you want anime, the just-aired X-men and Blade adaptations by the Japanese probably qualify.

The new Thundercats is more on the order of cartoons.

Watched the x-men anime and just found it too odd to watch any more of, was thinking of checking out Blade. Is it any good?

Funny, I watched the X-men one and didn't watch Blade. It wasn't so much as odd as coming from a different animation tradition--the evil characters are REALLY scary evil, not just a little evil like how Magneto is typically done in the original version. Think "Japanese haunted house movie" evil.

You did finish the whole series though? It'll all make sense at the end.

Back to the Thundercats--did anybody notice that in some instances it presupposes that you saw the previous series. E.g. you need know who Panthro was.

I got that sense too but not completely they kind of explained it. Still really hope he's not dead, I mean they have everyone else but him at this point so still think he is alive somewhere!

That's the point--you know that the general who came back is a traitor since you can't have a dead major character!

Watched the new episode and not that impressed with it....too childish for my taste the who blinding anger and everything ends well and you get your moral in the end. Still like it enought to watch the next ep and see if it gets better.

    Reboots are interesting.

The non-talking Snarf is a welcome change.

Still trying to wrap my brain around Tygra and Lion-O being brothers of a close-ish age.

Episode 4 was good. Kinda thought provoking...when I'm not reading about Chuang Tzi.

Watched the first four episodes of the Thundercats last night (thank you YouTube) and really liked it. Fun, lots of action, and has heart. Loved the fourth episode and found myself bawling over the passing on of a walking plant. Had to watch that episode twice.

Hey I saw the premier dvd version icon_biggrin.gif it was a great change and although a little more adult theme I believe that's what makes it more appealing. Go thundercats hoooo. icon_exclaim.gif

I only watched the premiere episode and oh man was it awesome! Though I might be bias because I never watched the old school Thundercats (Though I plan to watch them) but yeah, the new series isn't all that bad and I'm going to watch the rest of the current episodes on Youtube when I get a chance. = )

One of my favourite childhood cartoons. Happy to see it back and so far, so good. I am still waiting for Snarf to talk and No I wasn't surprised Panthro wasn't dead. They wouldn't be stupid enough.
