If you use Internet Explorer, your IQ might be below average--at least, according to one study.

AptiQuant, a "psychometric consulting" firm that provides hiring exams for businesses, gave online IQ tests to more than 100,000 people. Visitors arrived either through organic searches or through advertisements on other sites, and Aptiquant made a note of which browser each test taker was using.

On average, Internet Explorer users fared the worst, with IE6 users at the bottom of the pile and IE8 users performing slightly better. Firefox, Chrome and Safari fell in the middle with little difference between them. IE with Chrome Frame and Camino landed on top, along with Opera, whose users scored the highest (on average).

"The study showed a substantial relationship between an individual's cognitive ability and their choice of web browser," AptiQuant concluded. "From the test results, it is a clear indication that individuals on the lower side of the IQ scale tend to resist a change/upgrade of their browsers."

If I used IE I'd be pretty pissed and insulted. Thankfully I don't, so I can freely make fun of those who do icon_biggrin.gif

It's a very unscientific study. I don't know why they bothered.

A better title for the study would be: "Non-technical people don't know how to change or upgrade their browsers, so they just stick with whatever came on their computer."

Still, it's kind of funny. (I use Firefox most of the time, by the way.)

Is it sad (or HILARIOUS) that at this very nanosecond I can name at least 3 RJers with extremely compatible grammar structure to that?

Let me see if we might have at least one of the same people in mind. Is it even more sad that one of these RJers posting like this is well into his 30s so you can't even get away with calling it cute anymore?

The one hospital I practise at still uses IE 6 because the software vendor for the EHR won't promise support beyond that. The hospital across town (where I also practise) has already moved to IE8 and I can't access one system from the other hospital and vice versa. And neither will support Firefox or Opera. All this talk about interoperability is moot when stupid admins won't change.

Puppies are cute. People who communicate like that were just severely let down by their schools, their parents and their communities as a whole.

Me too, it looks like opera users are the only ones who GAIN significant IQ points 5 years later. It's like the Fountain of Youth! icon_lol.gif

Yeah, where are the error bars? The p values between each column? (Self-) Selection bias?

That's strange. I took their test using IE 6 (IQ 136) and Firefox (IQ 150) after giving exactly the same answers. I can only assume it's because they tallied demerit points.

Wow I can't believe people actually did a study on this.
I would imagine people using IE having some kind of problem since you are being presented with better options at no cost.

"user registration currently is not allowed"

Probably because IE users are suing them.

Is there a time component? If so, because you took the test already, you probably entered the answers quicker.

Or it's because Firefox is THAT much faster than IE6. icon_lol.gif

Exactly. My 84 year old father is an extremely intelligent electrical engineer who worked on developing the MOS semiconductor technology that makes all these electronic gizmos possible, but he is not a software geek. He uses IE because that's the default browser that comes with Windows.

lol I thought it was someone very young when I read these posts first....it goes from immature to just sad in my head once I realize their much older than expected.
