I moved to Charleston @ 14, and went to college in Myrtle Beach. It has been hitting me now for a while and REALLY dawned hard on me tonight that I need to be around gay men......and def just need a change of scenery.

Is Atlanta a good place to go? Any suggestion besides NYC or LA which would prolly intimidate the hell out of me.....

Don't go to Seattle... no, actually, come to Seattle, you'll be one of the most attractive people here without a doubt. This city is a fug magnet.

I am from North Carolina raised and went to college there, left the state after graduation. Moved around a bit but have been in LA now for 10yrs, It was definitely a culture shock in the begining, but have gotten use to it now. Unfortunately the state is broke, unemployment is high and traffic sucks...but On a positive note..you'd be real popular here...the west coasters love a hot southern genticon_exclaim.gificon_wink.gif

You would be surprised about the cities in North Carolina. The small towns of NC are just as regressive as SC, but the cities are strangely gay friendly for the South.

I love Charlotte. It is progressive (compared to SC) it is vibrant and it is still small enough that it doesn't swallow you up. I like Raleigh less because it just isn't my vibe, but I have had so many people comment on how awesome the gay community is. Of course, Asheville also has a very artistic, eclectic community and the gay guys I know there LOVE it.

The LGBT communities in Charlotte, Raliegh and Greensboro (yes, there is a big gay community in Greensboro!!) all tend to run in the same circles.... they will travel from city to city for the parties.

I love Charlotte... I am moving there fulltime next year if I can.

Atlanta might be ok. But gang violence is out of control there.

I used to live in Spartanburg... never again. If you don't want to go too far, try Savannah, Charlotte or Raleigh/Durham/CH area.

Atlanta is a great place to experience gay life. We have several gayborhoods (both in town and the burbs); community; sports; and business organizations. There are gay bars for young guys; older guys; guys into sports; guys into entertainment. Several gyms favorited by gay guys. A great park for picnics. Two first rate gay choruses. Gay churches and synogauges. A gay pride parade. Hiking groups. A circuit party or two. Hartsfield Jackson airport lets you fly to any destination on the globe. There are enough technology oriented gay guys, you can find chat rooms specialized for gay atlanta on other gay social sites. Finally, with 4 real seasons, you can enjoy one snow event in the winter; beautiful flowers in spring; and look good in your shorts in the swealtering summer.

Come to Denver! While Atlanta's scene is pretty accepting - it may be a bit intense. And Miami? oi vey....Denver is much more laid back and easy - and one of the fittest cities in the country.

disclaimer: I'm from NC, and lived in Atl and Tampa/Daytona. So i know of what you speak, and have experienced the rest!

If you go to Atlanta, stay in the "Midtown" area, or around Ga Tech, Piedmont park, Chesirebridge, Buckhead, etc. Lots of gay clubs, etc. But i live 30 miles out of town.
