I was watching CBS news on logo and Shirley Phelps daughter of Fred Phelps is apparently friends with an editor of Out Magazine who says she is a great ally to the gay community. It was a very strange interview, she was nice and seemed genuine. The editor of Out maintains that the Phelps expose homophobia to the nation and are the best thing for gays since stonewall. I don't know if I would go that far but I do believe God Hates Fags is very helpful to the gay rights movement. Anyone see the clip and what do y'all think?

    Every movement needs a demon.

    - Christians need atheists and satanism
    - Fundy Muslims need the corrupt godless west
    - Blacks need an unfair justice system
    - Republicans need socialists and commies
    - And gays need Phelps

Without some foul beast to portray and rally against any movement losses its cause and momentum.

DO NOT watch LOGO. CBS as a corporation fires GAYS as a matter of Practice. Happened here in Dallas, openly Gay Reporter was denied any Pro Gay reporting concerning the Anti Gay Marraige Ballot question. They then sent him to an interview of a guy in Ellis Co south of Dallas. The guy was claiming his kids were molested by a local Baptist Minister. Kids had to leave, truth was wife was Divorcing him for he was broke. He had blown thur a Million plus bucks he had gotten from The Catholic Church. At last moment new address, old instructions/address had a warning not to show this guys face. Who would look at the old address/instructons when you got new ones. When Reporter got there asked any thing other than just use your first name, answer NO. Reporter gets fired, victim gets 500K and now goes to Church with Station GM who called the Reporter a FAGGOT

    Uhm... CBS doesn't own Logo.

Logo is ran by MTV Networks, which is owned by Viacom.

CBS News on Logo came to be because Viacom once owned CBS.

CBS has since been split from Viacom, but both are controlled by Sumner Redstone through majority owner, making National Amusements their parent company.

So, if you don't like CBS, don't watch the CBS News.

IMHO (I don't know!!), it doesn't make sense to impute hate, love, or any other human emotion to something as transcendent, mysterious, and incomprehensible as the Absolute, if there is in fact such an Existence.

Have I covered all my bases? icon_rolleyes.gif

Movements are a matter of cause and effect, not an antithesis of an opposing faction. What would blacks become if they absolutely achieved equality? Would they be less black? Would they find something else to "need"? Struggle is an effort, not a dependency.

Without injustice and racism there wouldn't have been a black movement. Note the use of the world movement. Example: Civic rights movement.

Everyone movement needs a demon. Without it your just a collection of people.

Nonsense. My high school pastor said God doesn't hate anyone. God loves us all! If you sin and end up in hell its your own fault for not accepting that love! icon_wink.gif

I just have a problem with the word "need" in this context. A better word is because. Need is word that gives a sense of dependency. Blacks have a movement because of inequality, not because they need inequality. They struggle in an effort from inequality, not in concert with it.

    Does anyone else see this?

It must be a mighty crowded place by now!icon_rolleyes.gif

I agree that in a perverse way the Phelps brigade helps the gay rights movement because they are such an extreme. Picketing the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq is really beyond the pale for just about anyone. Just like the KKK helped the civil rights movement by the extreme violence they exhibited in the 1960's.

The lord loves us, and he wants us to love each other. Hence he loves high fiber figs, ensuring our poop shoots become love canals (not the toxic waste site).

Haters Anonymous meeting May 2, tell God, okay? icon_wink.gif

And ya, I actually found the Phelps movement absurd because they were actually doing the GLBT movement a favor by totally going batsheet crazy.

But hey, I'm atheist. I'm not supposed to believe in Conspiracy Theories... did you hear about the rumor that figs are homophobic?

I remember hearing Shirley Phelps on Feast Of Fools (a gay podcast) a while back. It was pretty interesting.

They mentioned a group called Fags For Phelps (Phags For Phelps)....that support Shirley's right to express her views.

Here are some links that you may want to check out:

Wow, I totally see you point. It's like the Phelps family are so illogically homophobic, that normal people who might generally be a bit homophobic would rather not affiliate with the Phelps as opposed to not affiliating with homosexuals. In a way it pushes the general public into the middle ground by publicly making "homophobes" look worse than Scientologists.

Who chooses these people. Do they do an opinion poll on the gay community centers across the country, or does one politically minded gay group in some posh high rise do it all for us? I'm one of the few people whom doesn't appreciate drama and hatred in the name of "Gay"dome for anyone's sakes.

It's like watching the local Channel 7 "Doomed" News. Nothing is ever right, but for some reason it's got our attention. I wish they'd just show the weather and leave it at that. I swear, if I wanted to see all that horror and drama I'd turn on a horror movie or start argueing with my roommate over nothing.

    Boy am I angered today...

Blacks don't need an unfiar justice system. They already have it.
