I think I joined this site two years ago, and as everyone knows, conversations can get very heated. As a matter of fact, most conversations end up in hate wars. You could post a picture of a butterfly and the claws would come out after three posts. I used to let it affect me, and I know it's affected many others who really don't need more negativity in their day. God knows we could use a break.

So here is a great way of looking at it. Real Jock lets you filter out the type of people you want to listen to and buddy with. When someone says something totally mean or just completely opposite of the type of person you want to be around, click the Ignore Posts button next to their name. This would be in extreme cases where it's more than a difference in opinion, more so when they are just downright.........bad, as per you definition. No one gets hurt, no one knows.

Who knows, maybe all of the evil people would enjoy getting together and having mad sex together or something. The point is you filter out the people who may not be for you.

It's better than dating them and finding out later. icon_wink.gif

I'd rather laugh at the ones who "should" be blocked, because I get lulz from it.

"Ignore posts" should be clicked only with the most persistent serious infractions against decency and logic, and should be occasionally revisited. People do change for the better, rarely, but they do.

yourname2000 saidMeh. Some of the guys I butt heads with on some topics are the smartest guys in the thread on some other topics. There's only a couple of guys here who seem to only hit one note...and if they insist on playing it constantly, I'll tune them out with an 'ignore'.

It would be good to be able to 'ignore' threads though; I'd actually find that more valuable than ignoring people. Usually it's just one or two ideas a guy has that are whacky that I want to take a pass on.

Don't you Meh me fucker. I'm your biggest fan. icon_wink.gif

Some of them are very funny, but it is very hard to laugh when it concerns blatant racism. We all know the Forum Rules are not really 'rules' but at best just mild suggestions. I just wish the one they call "our most important rule" was actually enforced. "Our most important rule: Do not use any hate language in forums. In particular, hate language referring to sex, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation will get you banned from the site. You can strongly disagree with others, but resulting to the use of hate language is not appropriate." But yesterday when we see one member call another member "black and stupid" and nothing seems to be done, it does get a little disheartening especially since it just the latest of many times this person has done the same thing. We can no longer use words like 'shit', 'cock', or 'ass' on the home page or in our profiles, so it is funny that we can still call each other "black and stupid." I very much like the site, but administration please stop the racism and attacks on other members.

Here's my question: why is there so much anger in the first place? Is it all hormones? What the hell is that testosterone doing to us? I mean we all want to spoon and rassle and kiss someone (I'm guessing). They say that men don't have it hard, but that hormone fucks with us on a daily basis. Good when it's good, bad when it's bad. icon_wink.gif

See, you're proving my point: obviously you've got excellent taste in men but as far as this thread goes, you clearly don't know what you're talking about, lol. icon_lol.gif

(oh man, even I can't believe I said that --hahahaha! Hugs! xoxox)

Stop confusing me. You're strong and I vicariously live through your battles with others. You're a man's man. Like, duh, don't people see you're one of the most attractive men on the site.

Takes years for people to learn, right?

I wish the "Report Spam" link could be "Report Abuse" like it is in the profiles.
People would be much more likely to click it.

It's one thing to have an opinion. It's another to just viciously attack someone. Blocking people serves its purpose.

I've never blocked anyone. But I've probably been blocked. Kind of silly. It's just a forum -- and I'm harmless icon_wink.gif

I consider it a mild form of censorship - which I hate more than anything. But if someone is truly vile and just spits out hate, or can't handle anyone who thinks differently than they do and just wishes death and disease on people he has never met and says nasty things SPECIFICALLY to stir up as much trouble as possible - then I can understand it.

This site should be fun. Maybe thought provoking, even educational but if it becomes stressful in any way - then it's simply not worth it. Especially if it is stress coming from lonely mean spirits just trying to spread their misery.

Fortunately - there is VERY little of that here. Usually someone is just misunderstood. I have gone head to head with a few guys in forums but we have spoken privately and found common ground and ultimately enjoyed meeting one another. As I said to one such member very recently, sometimes head-butting is an art form unto itself. It's not the end of the world. Leave the grudges and cat-fights to the chix LOL!!!

Are there moderators on this site?

Some of the things I've seen on this site are shocking from a moderation point of view, school yard stuff. It is definitely the one thing that puts me off posting on the forums more.

I am definitely anti over moderation, but it does have its place.

    I'm very much in agreement.

What I've done is go to the offender's profile and do a "report abuse" and add a link to the thread in the message.
I don't know how much it helps, but it's better than doing nothing.

    I haven't blocked anyone. I didn't know I could.

I enjoy reading the posts, even when someone is whackadoodle. There are a few members that I look forward to their creative and humorous posts and they make me smile.

Of course, I am getting sad that so many of the guys who I hot list do not hot list me back. icon_sad.gif Maybe I am alone because I am only attracted to guys who are not attracted to me. That is a problem.

Or, more likely, maybe Realjock is the GREAT MAN FILTER.... and I am being filtered out! icon_mad.gif

I would not and have not blocked anyone. It is obvious that my views are not congruent with many on here, but that does not mean I do not respect their views and defend their right to have/speak them! When people take it personal or start name calling I just drop out of the conversation!

Oh and Alpha, I would defiantly hot list you back!

I don't think that "report abuse" button really does anything but immediately send what you've just written somewhere to be automatically deleted and is not really ever read by anyone. I think it is probably just something there to make us feel better.

I think the discussions about whether moderation exists are a bit like the atheist/God discussions....
