Hi Folks, been lurking for a bit but todays run leaves me with a question..
(background: I'm a new runner, and am using a 12 week running plan to get into shape)
Today I ran the longest (withour stopping) I ever have, a whopping 15 min. I was wearing UA workout shorts with the built in brief liner. A few hours later I developed a raelly unplesant ache in each nut. Usually I wear undershorts with a lot more support, or compression shorts of some sort to run.
I figure all the bouncing around didn't do my boys any favors..
Mostly just venting, I guess this will go away and I'll know to be more careful about having the apropriate support for my next run.

    Thanks.

Actually, you may have gotten 'em a bit twisted. Testicular torsion (Google it), while it sounds hilarious, actually isn't all that funny. But if they're not aching anymore then you're probably fine.

Also, I'm no running expert, but you may want to check your form and you definitely want to pack your junk so it isn't flopping all over. What good is a sack that is too tender to touch?

Hey sore balls!! You should wear a good jock--and use a little vasoline on the boys. Prevents iritation---also some on your nipples too if you wear a shirt. Hope the boys are feeling better soon--heheh.

Ok, enough with the lies. All homo erotic images aside, I think jocks are the MOST uncomfortable things ever, for running, lifting, lounging, etc.

And Vaseline on his nuts for a 15 minute run? Tsk, tsk you dirty man, I think that suggestion does more for your fantasy than it helps his possibly twisted nuts.

UA shorts are GREAT for preventing chafing. The fabric is lightweight and soft against the body, which is a nice way of saying it'll prevent a fire from being created as your thighs rub together.

However, built in underwear is worthless. It's too lightweight, provides no structure for support and typically leaves too much material in the undercarriage, lol. Cut it out. Seriously, take your scissors and remove it. Ahhh, much better.

Now, go invest in a nice pair of quality-made briefs -- 2(x)ist, Cin2, etc. No ass invading itchy jock, just plain cotton or bamboo briefs. Not boxer briefs, especially not if your thighs are chubby. Those things will end up wound around the tops of your thighs like cotton doughnuts. By keeping the twins out from between your thighs, the likelihood that they'll be squashed like avocados in homemade guacamole lessens considerably.

If moisture becomes a problem, sprinkle a little Gold Bond powder down South, but don't over-do it. If powder can be seen coming out of your shorts, you've used too much.

If you ran for 15 minutes, your warm-up should have been about the same time. Stretching hurts, but get used to it. And whatever you do, DO NOT BOUNCE.

    Happy running G rocco!

It could be a twisted nut. I hope not. I had that and if you think the twisting hurts, the untwisting is 10x worse. I had a similar experience a bout a year ago. I had the worst pain. I could not figure out what was wrong. It might have been another twisting. It hurt for like a week and then I was at work and my balls moved and all the tension released. Just don't play with them too much trying to figure out what is wrong. If the pain continues, check it out with a doctor. Self diagnosis will have you super paranoid.

Sometimes my balls just ache. Could be from too little action or too much. Also happens when I exert myself at the gym. Just remember to push yourself, but not to the point of injury. Try to ice those boys down and see if it subsists.

Thanks for the concern and warm fuzzies.
The idea of a testicular torsion had crossed my mind, but I didn't think the discomfort I was in was anywhere near painful enough to be that!

Normally I run with UA compression shorts, or some C9 boxer briefs (with a pouch front). Also got a pair of microfiber bbs from H&M a long time ago that are perfect to run in.
I *do* like jockstraps, for most of the reasons other people do. I prefer to run in something with a little more coverage though. See, I am a big guy; have always had the 'thunderthighs.' THe inside of my legs, at the top of the thigh, get awfully chafed if I run in the wrong pair of underwear, briefs included. A few weeks ago I had a less-than satisfactory pair on, and then went and walked a few miles around downtown DC, and had rubbed my leg until it seeped a few drops of blood icon_sad.gif
So until I get those skinny thighs, I gotta run in something that has the apropriate coverage, and support - no need to let my boys go flopping all over again!

icon_lol.gif LOLOL!!! That's the best thing I've heard all day. Because it's SO TRUE!

Reminds me of one of my favorite comedians, who is also a big guy. Kevin James from the show King of Queens. In his standup routine, he does a bit about underwear, and he says if you walk too much in boxer briefs, it's like having a tangled hammock between your legs! LOL! icon_lol.gif

Sorry. I digress. Toilet humor always seems to amuse me.

Word of warning about Testicular Torsion (God that just makes me want to crawl in a hole just hearing it.)

Had a buddy in college who had a terrible case of it that actually required minor surgery to correct. His occurred in the middle of the night while SLEEPING NUDE. Turned over in his sleep and sat straight up in bed screaming at the top of his lungs.

Upon telling his doctor how it happened, the urologist told him that aside from sports-related injuries, a huge percentage of his torsion cases throughout the years were from men sleeping NUDE with no support!

    Who'd a thunk it?

So... word of warning to the nude sleepers, which, judging by the underwear threads here, appears to be a lot of you. I can't bring myself to since he told me that.

This exact thing happened to me last week. I had to get minor surgery. I wasn't covering the boys while I was sleeping. I didn't know it came from sleeping in the buff. Thanks for the info man.
