Depends on where in Atlanta you are living.
Midtown, downtown, Highlands, Morningside that is Atlanta.
Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Buckhead isn't Atlanta.
The gay scene is Drama here but there are just a whole lot of us.
There are a lot of groups to get involved in. Find a good gym and make some good friends and you will be fine.
Either live close to where you work or where you like to do things.
Commuting will eat up your life in this town.
    Best wishes

Every time I'm in ATL, it never fails that I see someone getting beat up.

And the marta...it's scary riding the marta after dark, so I hope you have your own vehicle. The traffic/driving around Atlanta is atrocious though so be prepared for road rage.

Oh yeah - and Georgia Tech SUCKS.

Gay Atlanta IS what you make it. If you want to be a party boy, you should be a popular addition, if you pics are any indication. If your coming up here to seriously study, and get ready to be a success in life, there are plenty of opportunities to network with professional gays. They there is everything in between.

The posts about the traffic in Atlanta is completely accurate. But MARTA is like every other big city Transit system. There are some places at night, you want to avoid.

If that private college is Emory you should be fine, if that private college is Morehouse or another Atlanta University school, be careful. Unless the administration has become enlightened in the last few months, it is not a great place to be openly gay, which is surprising with all the DL action this city has.

I made the opposite move. They are two different worlds. If you didn't like Miami, you'll probably love Atlanta.

It can be scary riding transit after dark for the clueless amongst us, but if you know our whacko drivers (think Miami drivers, without all the excuses), it is all the more scarier driving along our precious roads pretty much any time of the day. So plan ahead and move around carefully. Try to reside ITP (Inside the Perimeter, which is I-285) to maximize your sanity. Good luck!

atlanta is what you make of it...there is a lot of attitude here but there are also a lot of nice guys too. be prepared for a certain amount of racism..but also be prepared for a lot of very curious accepting men. the town tends to be rather clic-ish.
I have been here ten years and really don't like it at all...but that is just me. i know lots of guys who love it here. so go figure.

Georgia Tech is my alma mater... and consistently ranked one of the top schools in the nation... #3 or #4 engineering school in the nation, top 7 public university, grad programs in engineering are in the top 3 in multiple specialties... so I take offense at your comment. you're either a University of GA fan or someone that couldn't make the grade and got kicked to the curb.... and now you're mad. People rarely have such strong opinions about universities unless something's up... especially when the comment was about a city's social scene, not the city's schools. Lose the chip on your shoulder.

You, the leader of trivial posts discussing the most trivial things in your life is asking who gives a shit about what someone else is doing? Amazing.

One of my best buddies who's a native of ATL and gay says not to trust the Georgia boys... I asked why not but he wouldn't divulge more info.

Having lived in both cities.... they are very different. But both wonderful.
I only lived in Atlanta for a 3-month stent. I lived in Virginia Highlands which is a great little community and just moments from the action.

My cousin did the same, for business reasons.... its ok, both have their advantages... I prefer Miami myself, but Atlanta def has stuff going for it, such as the Southern hospitality you get here and there

Having lived in Miami I can speak up, but I have deep history in Georgia. My Black side and my Cherokee side derives from "Jawga".

But I could never live there. Never did live there and don't care to. I remember back in 2009 I was about 30 miles outside of Atlanta and the accents were something out a movie! I have never heard such backwoods, hillbilly accent in my life. But it was funny.

I stayed there for about 4-5 days and didn't really enjoy it. I think ATL is completely overrated in the south. I personally like a place that has more diversity and Latin/European flavor to it, which Atlanta does not have but Miami possesses.

That said...I'll never move back to the south again anyway.

But...hope you like it! Don't get me wrong...there's some fine ass guys out there. And since there are more Black people in Atlanta as opposed to ahem...Denver and Miami, you might have a better chance of getting with some of those White guys that you find so cute icon_wink.gif

    But again...it is the south.
