Translator: -"Dem (they) want know, what the first ting (thing) y'are do if y'are win dis ting (this thing)"

-And me cant find no oxtail and no rice and peas no place! (these are Caribbean staples)
-And me tired of this idiot blood cloth white boy are ask me (a blood cloth is what a woman uses to wipe menstrual blood, its a curse word)

If you take notice, every time she spouts out an expletive the camera is only on her. So more than likely it was filmed with only her in the room while no children were actually present. That's unnecessary for children to witness, even if it is a comedy.

I didn't think it was all that funny, however.

Haha prolly not.. its Caribbean humour.. very culturally specific... l

It's still pretty much English icon_smile.gif We're taught proper (British) English in school, but our everyday communication makes extensive use of English creole.

Yeah.. its similar to how many Americans will extensively speak slang ... such as "I got" instead of "I have".... or "Im doing good" instead of "im doing well"

Not to mention the plethora of ossified grammatically incorrect terms, such as "with who did you go there?" (with whom) or "internet is a media thats gaining in populatiry over television (a medium)"

But outside of everyday communication, newspapers, television.. we all use "proper" english, British that is

O no, its pretty much a dialect all its own that has to be learnt like any other... direct communication is not possible between the creole and the standard forms

Part of one my former jobs involved processing delivery driver invoices - good times, NOT. Battistelli was the surname of one of the delivery people. The first time I saw one of his invoices I screamed. I called over a Jamaican co-worker and pointed to the guy's nickname on the paper - she screamed, too, and fell to the floor in hysterics.
    The nickname? Batty Boy icon_biggrin.gif
