Pyrotech saidI've never been able to afford it. I tried to get my boss to pay for him and me to go this year, but the company budget wouldn't allow it. How'd it go?
I learned a lot, although its considered to be 60% party conference, and I didn't partake. I actually was invited by a neighbor who is IT as well, and he cancelled, but I went anyway (since my company did pay for it). I didn't know anyone, and IT guys ... you can try and try, but not the most inviting bunch.
Was blown away by how many people - they had about 12,000 this year (versus 10,000 last year and 8,000 the year before). The presentations were cool and ...it was vegas, which I always enjoy (i go 3-4 times a year).
Black Hat was right before it down the strip from where DefCon was, and it was literally 100x the cost, so DefCon was definitely affordable outside the cost of travel and hotel. Next year is DF20 so you should try to attend i you are interested! check out their website - defcon.org
