It was very cool, and I learned a lot. They had quite a bit of gay guys there (from my limited gaydar abilities) - although since I was by myself I didn't do much socializing.

    Anyone else on Rj go?

Defcon - it is a hacker's conference. This year they had about 12,000 people show up. It was my first time going, so i didn't really no anyone, and not really part of the community. While a lot of the guys there fit the 'stereotype' perpetuated by media, there were definitely some hot guys there.... just saying! Some of them could have definitely been RJ members... ;-)

I've never been able to afford it. I tried to get my boss to pay for him and me to go this year, but the company budget wouldn't allow it. How'd it go?

I learned a lot, although its considered to be 60% party conference, and I didn't partake. I actually was invited by a neighbor who is IT as well, and he cancelled, but I went anyway (since my company did pay for it). I didn't know anyone, and IT guys ... you can try and try, but not the most inviting bunch.

Was blown away by how many people - they had about 12,000 this year (versus 10,000 last year and 8,000 the year before). The presentations were cool and ...it was vegas, which I always enjoy (i go 3-4 times a year).

Black Hat was right before it down the strip from where DefCon was, and it was literally 100x the cost, so DefCon was definitely affordable outside the cost of travel and hotel. Next year is DF20 so you should try to attend i you are interested! check out their website - defcon.org

I'd like to go at some point, but unless I can get a company-sponsored trip, I probably won't be able to go. The problem is that it's so close to Burning Man, and I don't get the cash / vacation time to make it to both. And let's face it; since I program / test 8+ hours a day, Burning Man takes a bit higher priority on the vacation front. I still follow defcon / sec ninja on twitter though, so I find the workshops and such online during / afterwards anyway. Would just be nice to get to go one year. Glad to hear you had a good time though!
