I just got the bill online, which I had missed the month before, while we were down in Key West. It's $800 for June & July! Though it does include our residential service, and DSL Internet.

It's all his cell phone, over a thousand minutes. I never go over my limit. But he's on the damn thing non-stop, and uses it at work, for which he gets no reimbursement. I've been telling him "Use your office desk phone, and our home phone. And tell your friends to call the house phone."

But he won't, and they don't, and so I'm paying $400 a month. And he gets mad at ME for raising the topic. Damn it, that amount would have paid for another Key West getaway.

I'm gonna tell him he talked away a Key West vacation, and see how he reacts. I just can't deal with this anymore, I'm not made of money. icon_sad.gif

Probably the same amount you spend at the optician each month for your rose-colored glasses.

Well, we can't switch our cell phones right now, nor have DSL Internet with them here. -- it's AT&T only. We did have Comcast cable TV & Internet, but their service in our area is awful. Constant disruptions, slow speeds, and fuzzy reception above channel 60.

They made all kinds of excuses, but no solutions. I don't like AT&T DSL, but it's better than Comcast cable in our neighborhood. Plus we now have DirectTV satellite, which gives us more channels, most in HD, and a few even in 3D, which our TV can show.

But this Fall I was considering getting an iPhone 5. If Verizon offers it I may switch to them. AT&T's billing is piracy, and I simply won't pay that anymore. And I'll cancel our AT&T residential phone service, and look at satellite Internet. I think it'll be faster, and less prone to interruptions here.

I am on ATT Wireless as well. I know there are plans available that would reduce your bill considerably. I use my cell phone for 90% of my personal and biz calls, text line a mad man, and use the internet often, and my bill is never higher than $150. You just have to be careful to go through your usage and pick the appropriate plans to reflect that usage.

I know! That's my point, and I gotta do something, maybe change carrier. I was horrified when I got the online AT&T bill today (now paid). I had no idea about this. And then I'm gonna have the costs from my cancer treatment coming up. This is gonna bankrupt me.

BTW, disregard the gratuitous political swipes from the right-wing peanut gallery here. Is that the height of childish behavior or what?

In any case, like many of my posts here, it is cautionary. I think most of us have cell service, and I share my misadventures and problems as informative and possibly helpful to others, on this and many topics.

Thanks for the help, though it would appear YOU are the one who is really in need of it. Most of us figured out the cell phone bill game long ago when it comes to picking the right plan for our usage. But your concern for the community is nonetheless duly noted icon_wink.gif

P.S. aren't posts like the OP here for what FACEBOOK was designed? To publicise completely random crap to your 'friends network?' Just seems a bit out of right-field for a whole forum topic on RJ... Oh wait, I forgot, I meant LEFT-field. The FAR left field.

Actually I have discussed my electric bill here before, as an example of how to save money. I switched all our lights to energy saving, bought a new dishwasher (the old one when I moved in here was broken, my partner cleaned the dishes by hand, a wasteful practice), and I replaced the old TVs & computers with energy-efficient ones.

Now, despite another adult living here (me), the electricity bill is HALF of what it used to be, before I moved in. I am a hawk about using electricity wisely.

But I don't monitor his phone, he's often at work, and I didn't realize what was going on. It never happened before. My fault. Well, I'll correct this, it's not gonna continue.

But as I said earlier above, something to be wary about, and so I share it here.

It didn't need repeating, but since you did, I think it's high time we all petition the owner of RealJock and demand a new forum category called "Things Most People Don't Give a FUCK About on RJ" icon_lol.gif

You might want to call consumer advocate Clark Howard on his daily radio call in show and weekly HLN tv show. He has many solutions to cellular phone bills and other geeky questions...I switched to Straight Talk Cellular because of Clark Howard's recommendation. getdown!

Get an unlimited plan. I pay $69.00/month (Verizon), though by the time they add taxes, etc., it's $95.00. Still, that's probably about one-third of what you pay (once you discount internet and residential).

I hate using my cell phone. I have a prepaid phone with no monthly fees. I get the prepaid minutes once a year for $100 and I always have left over minutes by the end of the year. So that averages out to $8.33/month icon_biggrin.gif

There are a dozen cell phone plans out there at least that would reduce a cell phone bill. Here's one...

Well, that's it, we have a bundled plan, that includes DSL Internet, plus the residential phone. We need that house phone to answer the front door intercom, and unlock the door remotely. And then I'd have to figure out how to get us Internet, because the cable Comcast we had before was even worse than DSL in this area.

But I'm looking at other solutions, maybe satellite Internet, I dunno. And I wanna keep our iPhones. Thanks for the advice a few guys have offered here (and ignoring the personally hateful, abusive and snarky posts from southbeach1500 and CuriousJockAZ, 2 guys to whom I don't even respond anymore).
