Ok 2 months ago I was gaining a little weight. I am unsure why because you know all the magazines and how they recommend eating alot of food 6 times a day. Well two months ago i was doing just that and keeping a good workout regime, but I was still seeing that my body was getting a little undefined and that my love handles were creeping up on me. Anyway I tried everything to get ripped but nothing really seemed to work....

Until I left for Barcelona. in june. As soon as I got to barcelona I knew that my eating habits were going to change. Food is expensive so I ate very little the two months I was there. Also, spaniards eat 3 very small portions of food every day. Also, the amount of walking I did every day was sometimes tiring.
On top of all these things, I enrolled in a gym and went almost every day. After two months of being in barcelona I dropped 9 pounds, lost a considerable amount of lovehandle fat, and got ripped. As you can see my profile picture is my most current after two months in barcelona. I have finally achieved what i have been seeking!

But Im so freakin confused because I achieved the results I wanted by doing the complete opposite to what these magazines and so called fitness experts say to do. now that I am back in the States shoud I eat little food and walk on a treadmill to mimick my Barcelona Habits?

Can someone please shed some light?

Sounds to me that you responded exactly as the fitness literature would have predicted. In the US, you ate a lot and bulked up, acquiring mostly muscle but some fat along the way too. Then in Barcelona, you "cut down" probably losing some muscle but preserving most of it whilst losing all the fat, leading to your "truly ripped" physique.

At least, I think that's it. I'm in the bulking phase although my nutrition is inconsistent. By nature, I default to not eating enough. Every third week or so during my purported bulk phase, I lapse and eat scant daily calories and voilÄ I end up the next week looking more cut than before (and a little weaker too...).

I would make an educated guess the extra walking you did was a large part of your weight loss. Since all the walking you did was spread out through the day I don't think you could achieve the same results with a treadmill unless you spread that out through the day. So maybe try to do little tricks like park at the end of parking lot, walk a couple or laps at lunch, lots of stairs?

Everyone's body responds differently. If I posted EVERYTHING I do, the nutritionists and trainers would say I'm a fucking wacko (they probably do anyway). But, it works for me.

If you found what works for you, fuck what others say, and do what your body responds to.

I get the weight loss, but my question is definition. I thought you had to eat alot to gain definition and or size. I thought once you stopped eating definition goes away.. but I had a polarization effect...

The problem is in the first line of your post. Magazines do not recommend eating "a lot of food 6 times a day". They recommend eating 6 small meals throughout the day.

Eating a lot helps build muscle, but a side effect (for mesomorphs) is also the addition of fat.
For definition, it's partially what you eat, but moreso how much you eat.

It may have been the mediterranean diet . Higher unprocessed carbs, more good fat and less sugar. The paleolithic diet will keep you ripped.

It's Barcelona. We all must sacrifice in order to look good in Custo, David Elfin, or Desigual. Nothing less is expected.
