I haven't smoked a cigarette since Monday. I plan on never having another cig in my life (marijuana cigs don't count).

But I'm going out and going to drink tonight. Wish me luck. I'll stay strong because I want to quit, but I won't lie, I could use all the support I can get.

I would like to note that since I quit smoking my lifts have all gone up by almost 10lbs

my partner says cinnamon flavored gum/hard candies are good cuz they keep the mouth busy and something about the flavor helps fight off cravings.

Glad to see someone with more wherewithall than I do at the moment. Fell off the wagon just about a month ago due all the crap and cards I've been dealth. Upside? Effects at my age are having me research gyms in my area to join.

Wow I just had my last cigarette this passed Sunday. I've been smoking heavily for 5 years. Sucks big time...tonight is the first night I'm going out drinking since I quit. My boss wrote "NO" in sharpie on both my hands. I've been chewing gum and playing with toothpicks all week. Ripped a few js with my roommate but that...cold turkey. So far, so good, but tonight is gonna be HARD.

More power to you, wolverinecub86. I'm not allowing myself to smoke another cigarette. YOU CAN DO IT! Withdrawal is only temporary. Look at this:

that's great, no cigs since Monday. I know you have it licked, but you still may get a urge from time to time; it goes away rather quickly. Maybe carry some toothpicks around to chew on. I promise you that when you have finally no urges to smoke you will never regret it. You even sleep better.

I quit 10 years ago and it has helped my health so much. Maybe you could use RJ as your support system to talk about it.

Best of luck brother, YOU HAVE DONE IT!

I relapsed a little when I went drinking and ended up smoking two cigs on friday. But cutting down from 5 packs a week (50$ and all the negative health effects) to two cigarettes a week was a big difference. I still get the cravings, but not as often now.

On a side note, since I quit I have been even hornier. I am not sure if this is due to the cigs, or if I am just horny in general. Without cigs I guess I need some way to keep my mouth occupied lol. So watch-out long island there's a horny wolverine on the loose.

No big deal, Wolverine, you are back on your resolve today. I will admit that I had a couple of cigarettes during my first year after quitting. Good work!

Maybe you could find a non-smoking bar.

    Welcome to oxygen, lol.

I found the hardest part for me was a couple of days later when the carbon monoxide finally disapates from your blood and your capacity to absorb oxygen returns to normal....it's like being on two pots of coffee -RRRRAAAAAAGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! That's when I really need the dope: to calm me down and get some CO back in my bloodstream.

And yeah...horny. And ready to fight. Hmmm....could be hot: violent ex-smoker porn....sort of UFC meets Falcon Studios, lol.

I would like to note that since I quit smoking my lifts have all gone up by almost 10lbs

Can there be an incentive better than that?!
(If you start again and stop again I doubt that the lifting increase would be cumulative!)

All of the above advice is good and may I add my applause !! Gum or peppermints are a fine temporary substitute [until you get tired of them, but by then you'll have it licked!] The first 30 days is the hardest and at least for that long I wouldn't recommend bars. It's best to eliminate all of the things that encourage smoking. If you "always" have a cigarette after or with coffee, try eliminating the coffee -- or at least having something else with the coffee that satisfies and or distracts.

[I quit cold turkey more years ago than I care to admit. I was 24]

Unfortunately, many people on RJ smokes and they are not good role models. It is truly a travesty to the gay community. Since there are no good gay role models, we just have to keep scraping the barrel.
