Could be cool...then again...the kill me scene fron Alien Resurrection comes to mind. I'd probably rent a uterus or something.

Morning sickness, not being able to eat feta cheese or Caesar salad or caffeine, stretch marks, baby sitting on your pelvic nerve, your belly all of a sudden becoming public petting property, the unattractive waddle, lactating and boob soreness, the paranoia if everything doesn't go as predicted or planned, the expenses for the ob/gyn and delivery...

    Ah, the joys of childbirth.

It would be really amazing to know that me and him could actually have a baby that was really a combination of both of us.. Just us two..
But all the things that come with child birth, and pregnancy.. The pain for one of us to deal with, and the embarrassment of being a man with a pregnant belly and waddle would be too much, and make it not worth it..

Wait wait... WHAT???? Are they insane???? That thing would not make it past a single egg division without mitochondrial DNA and an X-chromosome (you need a mother for both)

Now, a child with two MOTHERS is possible genetically, but two fathers? in humans. no way, Hozay!

    This!

It's enough taking a dick up the butt. However, passing a baby through a urethra would be a but uncomfortable.

no.. you would have a Cesarean section done.

C-Section... where they cut you open and take the baby out of your womb. Of course, you would have to insert a womb in the male in the first place... it is possible... just freaking hard as fuck.

Yes, and I would have done it with my first live-in boyfriend at age 21.
But now that I'm 40, there's no way in hell you could persuade me into having a child even if I could.

I think they are proposing it be done in a manner similar to today's cloning technology, where they would take an egg from a woman, denucleate it, put in the nucleus from a sperm and if it becomes viable, fertilize it with another sperm. The mitochondria (and consequently mitochondrial DNA) would come from the woman who provided the egg originally.

Would it work? As hopeful as I am that it does, I don't think so. For an illustration as to why, you can look at what happens when a denucleated egg is fertilized by two sperm: http://pathweb.uchc.edu/eatlas/GYN/439.HTM. That is a complete hydatidiform mole. A complete mole also has mitochondria from the mom. One explanation for why this results is that sperm are likely missing some component, whether genetic or otherwise that a normal egg nucleus contains and which permits embryogenesis. Maybe someday they'll figure out a way around this...

Also, half of all sperm have an X chromosome, so that's not a problem (remember, you're XY, not YY).

Edit: To answer the question - yes, I LOVE KIDS!!!!

If it were possible for my future husband and I to both be genetic contributors and the risks were over come, I'd be all for it. Though I wouldn't want my husband to carry the baby, i'd opt for a surrogate, cuz Im a playful rough kinda guy and Id imagine my husband would be too, and a baby tummy would seriously hamper hiking trips, snowboarding, and rough housing. icon_wink.gif

It would be equivalent to being a kid watching your best buddy be immobilized temporarily and then you have no one to play with in the mean time lol.

If a man could conceive a child, he'd be what we call "a woman."

I know plenty men I'd call "a woman" regardless of whether or not they can conceive a child.
And they're not all gay men...

I think it would be possible, but the following assumptions must be made:

1a. An external uterine construct that could provide a place for the male-male zygote to attach to and form a placental membrane to exchange nutrients and remove wastes

1b. A willing surrogate mother, preferably a female related to one of the fathers so as to minimize rejection of the zygote.

    2. Mitochondrial DNA: not sure if this can be extracted with a meaningful level of integrity from the donor fathers; might need to come from a maternal female relative of either father. Perhaps again the source egg would come fromthat same female relative which would also help resolve rejection issues.

    3. XY chromosomal selection. Probably the most easy (relatively speaking) issue to resolve: isolating the "egg" (generated from one of the donor father's sperm) to be only an X chromosome should not prove an insurmountable challenge.

I actually thought/am still thinking about going into a field where I could do research in the subject. I'd totally be down. Now to just find a surrogate...oh and boy. hmmm
