Do you think of yourself as an athlete? Do you think of yourself as athletic?

Mostly just curious. I'm *not* athletic,or an athlete. Never played any sports, have no competitive spirit. Just love the solitary activities, primarily cycling and running.

So, how do you think of yourself?

I've been an athlete all my life - ran track, swam, polo, tennis, and that's why I'm in the shape I'm in now. Was I lucky - growing up in California where I could be outside so much - doing all kinds of sports!

I'd definitely say I'm an athlete - I play in competitive leagues/teams for different sports. Unfortunately work hasn't allowed me to do much this past year, hoping to change that for '08.icon_redface.gif

Amen to that...Cali was a perfect place to engage in outdoor sports year around!

I would describe myself as athletic, and not an athlete since I don't compete for sport. I do get into playing racquetball, but that's more for fun than anything else.

I have played sports all of my life. The years have taken a toll on what my body is able to do now, but I still remain active and as competitive when I do play sports.

Was a big into football, swimming and wrestling in HS, in college I've competed for the University Judo team and have done some intramural football and wrestling too... I take pride in being able to call myself an athlete--to some of the other posts, I don't think being in a competitive organization is a requirement to be an athlete. For me at least, its more of a lifestyle than a classification. icon_biggrin.gif

Being athletic is one thing, being an Athlete is another.

I think there is a certain state of mind involved in how you define yourself.

Although I am very athletic and keep in excellent shape, I do not really identify myself primarily as an Athlete.

I am a wannabe athlete, unfortunately Mother Nature and the fates had other plans. I like playing softball, volleyball, soccer, hockey even football. I also like swimming and running. I can't say I am much more than adequate in any of them.

My Dad was a very good athlete but not very competitive, but my brother is a decent athlete and very competitive (Type A personality).

I'd consider myself more athletic. Didn't play too many team sports.

As a child I played baseball, football and the family sport of Tennis.
My father and older brother were competitive amateur Tennis champions who traveled the country in singles and doubles.

In early adulthood I studied Karate and then learned and started competing in indoor 6 man volleyball and have been playing/competing ever since.

I think that makes m an athlete.... always have been.

Natural athlete and very athletic. Played tennis since I can remember. Played basketball, football, and baseball in H.S. My H.S didn't have a tennis team at the time so I played for the local racquet ball club which really wasn't local it was about 20 miles away in another town. For a shorter guy I did very well in basketball. I still play and help coach in the fall and winter. I have an incredible since of balance and hand to eye coordination. I think I would have done very well as a gymnast as well but only messed around with that at the club and gyms for fun. There was a time when I was a bit too competitive and have tried to let a lot of that go and just enjoy the game.
