You are about a year behind in the 'investing' phase. The bargains are pretty much all gone, thanks to the declining dollar and thousands of South and Central Americans, not to mention Israelis who have plunked down cash for most of the desirable properties. The properties you see for 'cheap' on realtor.com are pretty distressed with huge assessments looming from low occupancy rates and no maintenance on some buildings since hurricane Wilma in 2005.
My advice is to come down here and rent for a while, South Beach, North Bay Village, etc. You might even like the new Miami Arts District.
Lastly be ready for a little culture shock moving here. It is not like any other place in the US. I love it! but it is diverse, noisy, and crowded at times.
