Hello, my name is John, and I am an addict.

It's been going on for a while now, and has been an ongoing struggle for me. It's just too easy, and I'll find myself spending hours and hours a day rather than partaking in regular activities. I fell into it through work, so it's not all my fault. I find myself choosing my addiction over actual interaction. I don't have too many real world friends anymore. I'm on it, right now, as I'm typing this.
    I'm addicted to the internet.
    HELP!!!!

Do you mean you're addicted to porn on the internet or addicted to spending time on the internet surfing, checking email, forums, etc.?

You're addicted to the internet, so you post a thread about it asking for help on the internet.
Hmmm...sounds about as bright as a flat black paint.

When you're on the internet, do you bring your laptop to bed with you? Or is it on a desk? If you bring it to bed, you should probably keep it on a desk at a distance and only keep your bed for sleeping in. Try and limit yourself to like an hour of internet time. Use an alarm if you need to. I guess, if anything, it takes a lot of will power if it really is an addiction.

I usually don't bring it onto my bed, but even then it has turned into an extreme distraction from other activities. I will try the alarm idea.

Worse, my job requires me to be on my laptop 5 days a weeks, 8 hours a day, and more often than not I find myself with too much downtime and end up dicking around online (like right now lol).

Lol, it has nothing to do with sex or porn addiction, but thanks I guess?

If it's one to a few specific sites you are on and you have a mac then you can download an app called selfcontrol. This blocks you from visiting a self made list of webpages for a specified amount of time. It's really neat. I use it when I have a long night of studying. They might have a pc version called something else.

When you lose all of your real life friends and only have Internet friends that's when you know you've hit Internet rock bottom. It actually happened to me before.
I don't know how I was able to get over it though. Sorry. icon_neutral.gif

I might be stating the obvious but... looking for help on the internet for your internet addition might be counter-productive.

You live in sunny Florida. Get yourself a bike and go out for a long ride along one of the many beautiful scenic trails you got. Drop in unexpected at a friends's house and invite him/her to tag along. After you're done, treat yourself and your bud for a delicious mango smoothie and a panini and tell jokes and laugh for hours and hours. Rush home to take a quick shower and then hit the bowling alley, have a little dinner and go catch a movie. Make plans to hit the beach together with your bud(s) within the next 48 hours. That way you'll have the anticipation of the beach trip and won't have time to waste it online looking at useless crap anymore.

As luck would have it, I'll be traveling to Naples FL next Saturday. Feel free to come down from Orlando if you wanna hang out. We'll go jogging on the beach every morning before breakfast and then go for a swim in the warm and beautiful emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Bike, beach and bowling. I like the way you think. I'm terrible with jokes though.

Dude, you should have definitely come down to Naples FL when I was there just a few weeks ago. My best bud came to visit from Buenos Aires and I took him all over the place (Naples beach, Sanibel & Captiva islands, and the whole coast of SW FL). Had the best time ever. Thinking of going back there sometime in November. You should come down and I promise you won't be needing a computer or feeding your internet addiction during the entire time there. As they say: "satisfaction guaranteed or your money back. icon_lol.gif
