I always think "You don't have one friend that would do you a favor and take a decent pic of you?!, Just one friend?" Those "self" portraits tend to look really awful.

I agree they are awful, and don't really understand it. Although it is a little more acceptable on a site like this than posting them on facebook.

No shit. And this is my chance to get a little cocky...my best pics are self-portraits, because I do self-portraiture professionally (ie. it's part of my income).

The OP needs to learn how to do professional self-portraits or STFU about other people's stuff, because his pictures totally suck donkey balls.

I don't have an iPhone, my Nokia phone camera belongs to the Dinosaur Age, and most of my friends would be completely averse to the idea of taking shirtless pics of me in suggestive poses.

Luckily some pics of myself in my profile prove my last point otherwise - I have managed to find one really close otaku friend of mine who doesn't give a fuck about whatever I want to be taken of me. I think photos of yourself can only go so far in terms of quality (unless you have a smokin' hot physique - in that case any photo taken by your own self no matter the resolution quality would still be swoon-worthy), and the best and most interesting ones are often those done by other people around you.

WHO CARES?! the main reason i do it is to take my progress pics and keep them updated more frequently and then i post them on bodybuilding.com. Tons of people on there, both male and female take the mirror shots. And no one complains about it.

I guess it does depends on what site you are on where it can become an issue to some. But if the guy is hot and almost naked, im pretty sure those that complain about crappy mirror pics will have no problem clicking on it to view it.

A ton of people don't even have pics. I'd rather see someones' face regardless of how the picture was shot and I see lots of goodlooking ones anyway. Some of these pictures taken by friends have been unchanged on here since Clinton was in office.

LMAO!! Those pics are so ghetto but so quick and easy hahaha that's why everyone does them (myself included haha icon_biggrin.gif) I call them Myspace pics bc nobody really did them before Myspace...the people who kill me are the ones who put the phone like 3 feet over their heads and take pictures of their scalp....I'm like what the hell do I need to see that for? Was there something up there that I needed to see? You balding? hahaha

    I'm in agreement... partially.
Cell phone mirror pics belong extinct in the myspace age already. I cringe any time I see them, even if the dude is smokin.
Good self photography IS definitely attainable though with the proper equipment.

I think the mirror shots persist because it's the quickest way of taking a self-portrait that you can see the result of before you take the photo.

You can set up a camera with a self-timer etc but when the photo is taken you might realise it's a bad angle or you have a weird expression on your face so have to do it again. In fact you might have to take dozens of photos just to get a few good ones.

Most people don't have the equipment that allows them to view what the camera is seeing while they are taking the photo, without a mirror.

    It is what it is.

As long as they have a face and body shot I don't care how he takes the picture.
