Today at Gold's Gym I had just come from doing some cardio and was in the stretching room. I sat down and proceeded to do my stretches but couldn't help but over hear on the conversation that was going behind me.

A trainer and her client were talking about the clients son. At first all I heard was, "I just don't get what a guy finds so appealing about another guys hairy ass..". This got me listening more intently and as the conversation continued, I kept hearing stuff come out of this guys mouth that no father should say about their own son. It's funny though, because I could tell the trainer was uncomfortable with the topic and tried to change the subject a few times.

It got to a point where I had to get up and leave. And I'm sure i know what you're thinking, why didn't I confront the man on what he was saying? Why didn't I step up and just flat out tell the man to eff off?... Honestly, I was just too angry for words...

It makes me sad to witness the arrogance of other people.

I wouldn't be surprised if the father is really attracted to men's hairy asses, but made a point of bringing it up because he assumes that others would find it disgusting.
The father also has boundary issues. Why else would he be talking about this with a trainer?

Eek. im sure she was uncomfortable. He should have more class at least in terms of talking about that with a WOMAN especially! It sounds like this guy didn't really get it at all, not only that but he obviously does not understand anything about gay people (and his son) either

However, being a personal trainer requires you to interact with your client, and discuss whatever they want to talk about. I don't mind, i enjoy talking to other people. But if a guy were to tell me about how his daughter was having her period, i probably would feel a bit odd. If they talk too much, i tell them they need to get back to their workout, which they do anyways lol

Mind your own business. If the father was actually beating (bashing) his son at the gym, then you should intervene. Sounds like he was just venting. Obviously he needs to get it out and express himself. He'll either come around and accept his son for who he is, or he'll just die early from all the anger/hate he's built up inside.

Same with any profession where you work one on one with clients.
The difference with me is that I'm outspoken if someone pisses me off like that, and I'll send them packing.

Thanks, I was minding own business, which is why I got up and left.

Gay bashing is more than just a physical form of harm, a person doesn't necessarily have to literally beat someone for it be harmful.

Here's the problem, the general public believes that if you're gay you fuck. I don't. Tons of gay guys don't. I even think some gay guys assume that you're not gay if you don't fuck, which is stupid.

That's always been the problem. They equate "gay" to "anal sex".

It's a problem -- one of many problems -- but it's not the problem. I don't fuck either, but I don't think gays who do should be discriminated against or disparaged by their parents at the gym. The father in this story isn't any less of a prick if his son does like to fuck.

Knowing me, I would have had to convey my dissatisfaction with the conversation in some manner... even an icy stare would have been the result if nothing else.

Not really. Its not your place to step in. I know at situations like this people want to step in and defend the son, but its a family issue. Its the same situation if the father was pissed his straight son was dating a kind of girl he doesn't approve. As long as he wasn't beating his son, its none of our business.

    +1

And one of the reasons we get a lot of "sales resistance" from the general public regarding gay rights. They think we're all about taking it up the ass, and that grosses many of them out.
