First female artist (tied for second) to have FIVE number ONE singles from one album.... very few artists can even pull off two hits from one CD. Despite this, I still think she's underrated.

underrated? i'm not quite sure what there is to praise her for aside from brilliant marketing and lots of sales.

I don't understand why Katy Perry gets dissed and put down so much.

She may not be artistically superior - but she doesn't claim to be.

Making great pop hits is hard to do and she's done it better than anybody over the last few years.

Go her. I thought that Gaga would have taken that over about now (since she's basically made or broke 102331312308 records of her own) but turns out Gaga didn't release 5 singles off of a single album yet in the US. So hey- props to Katy for that. I think she's a great person, so she deserves at least one record.

Sorry, she's awful by any standards. Her voice makes me want to kick babies.

Pretty impressive, especially considering how accurate the Billboard HOT 100 is now (thus making it very difficult to have multiple #1s). When Michael Jackson set the record in 1987-88, the chart methodology was very crude and more susceptible to manipulation.

Just checked Billboard.com and the race to #1 was very close. Approximately 30,400 chart points for Perry versus 30,200 for LMFAO (excluding internet streaming).

Good for her, she deserves it.

Better Katy, who can actually sing, than a certain talentless, brainless, backwoods trailer slut from louisiana.

Her voice isn't all that great, but I don't think she presents herself as something she's not and doesn't make it all so serious like Gaga does. ET with the Kanye rap was god awful, but TGIF and Teenage Dream are fun pop songs.

She does sing live (be it good or bad) and I'll take that over Brit Brit's lifeless attempt at lip sycning any day.

Loved Firework (instant classic) but the rest of her #1s from this album are just bubblegum. Good while it lasts but in going in the trash bin soon. And ET wasn't even good.

Have to admit though: the girl is good at what she does and has found the perfect teenage girl audience. Props to her.

She's no Rihanna though, in the songs department. Rihanna has many songs that are going to be timeless.

Gaga, meanwhile, is a performance artist, not a singles artist. Her songs are not all that, but they take a backseat anyway to the artistic aspect of her presentation.

They're all good. This is a good era for female pop singers.

when you look at the music that she competes with on the charts compared to what went on in the 60s through 90s, its like apples and oranges. There was much more chart competition, more artistic integrity and lets face it, most of the top 40 in the last 10 years has been awful, these songs wont stand the test of time. Sure some will, even some of Katy Perrys but its a pretty rancid era for pop music in general when you stack it up to earlier decades

She deserves all the #1s this era (minus Fireworks imo). "Last Friday Night" was my favorite song on the album when I got it first, but time after time, her songs get WAY WAY WAY over played on radio. I wish it was over played. It is more like radio vomiting her out.

The only songs I really liked were Teenage Dream and most importantly E.T., which to me is pop gold

    But congrats

I SWEAR I just read somewhere that Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation album had 6 number ones on it and that she was the first....hmm maybe I misread it icon_confused.gif

    glad that she made it.

a few weeks ago they were trying hard to get her to hit number 1 with last friday night by releasing the remix with missy elliot. i guess it worked.

I think E.T. is the best song on her album. Teenage Dream comes really close.

congrats to her but imho we just can' compare music industry in nowaday with things that the old artist have made like M.J, The Beatles ... and sometime i think by myself, 20 years and later people still listening to their songs but i'm not sure on this day but one year later, people still dance along with Katy', Lady Gaga, Rihanna stuffs or they're not icon_smile.gif

I wonder if they'll try to break MJ's record and release a 6th single. Hummingbird Heartbeat maybe?

Anyways, I'm happy for her. She makes good pop songs - nothing profound, but fun and catchy nonetheless. My personal favourite is "Teenage Dream".

Um she cheated. And technically it they are not all from one album. Seeing as E.T. ft. Kanye West wasn't on the album nor was TGIF ft. Missy Elliot.

I can't stand Katy Perry. Her cheap tactics to get her songs to #1 completely undermine the effort it took MJ. And I hate the bitch even more because now she is compared to MJ (RIP).

Like no sorry, but Katy Perry is a piece of cat shit compared to MJ.
