Ginseng and its side effects

I’ve read at several websites that ginseng has steroid-like chemicals such as panaxtriol (e.g., phytochemical.info’s site on Korean ginseng), which makes me wonder whether it could lead to side effects similar to steroids’ nasty effects.

I can’t find anything on the topic at reputable websites, like Merck Manual. So I was wondering if anyone here had any info on the subject – references, anecdotes, horror stories about testicular atrophy, etc.

    Thanks! =]

The first time I drink ginseng. I have a hard on that I cannot get rid of the entire night. Even after I masturbate, it still hard. On top of that I also cant go to sleep .I find out that ginseng is not really for younger, and energetic people. You end up with overdose of energy to the point it can make you sick. Maybe it just my body reaction to it. After that nite I never try ginseng again.

It was a long ago. But it a Korean stuff, with a real ginseng root inside it. The juice kinda yellowish in colour. Its tastes sweet because there sugar it in. Having an erection the entire night even after I already shot MY load 3 times, unable to sleep.......really it not funny.

The "hormone" that's in ginseng is a phyto-estrogen. So unless you're a woman, it shouldn't do much to you. You're not a woman, are you? And you're not taking great heaping gobs, right?

Most of ginseng's effects are do to a minor vaso-dilative effect in the brain, allowing slightly increased oxygenation of the brain for more efficient function.
