A good friend of mine is constantly getting colds, while I always get rid of mine the same day. So I turned him onto some of my remedies and now he's amazed at how well they work (even though he didn't believe in them at first.)

What do you do when you get a cold?

Drink lots of fluids. I also bundle up in bed to the point of almost overheating and "sweat it out" overnight. Probably no scientific basis for the latter....

Of course, there's always good ol' NeoCitran.

"Take Cold medication and it will be gone in a week; otherwise it will take 7 days"

    Fluids and saline nasal spray.

    I hate cold medication.

warm a mug and add a big spoon of honey, juice of a lemon, 1/2 tsp. ginger, hot water to blend and a good shot or so of whisky

Drink while hot and go to bed

    I'm fighting one off now.

    Here's what I am doing...
    1. Decongestant - Keeps the nasals open.
    2. Frequent nasal flush with dilute Listerine (original) and hot water.
    3. Plenty of rest.
    4. Plenty of clear fluids (water).
    5. Extra Vitamin C.
    6. Eat.

The rhinovirus will still run its course. But, the severity of the common cold, and any complications tend to become minimized (at least for me).

It's this vial of god knows what, it's oily and tastes gross. I've been taking it since I was a kid, it's fucking magical for colds. I think they only sell it in Mexico though.

Cold-Eze or other zinc lozenges. I also use the banned Zicam zinc nasal gel - I have been using it for years without losing my sense of smell. I am convinced that it works as promised to shorten the duration of a cold.

Best cure is prevention, though - I have cut my cold frequency way, way down by being diligent about washing my hands after being anywhere in public, especially after riding the bus or Metro.

Airborne works really fucking well for me. I take it 3 times a day, the last time being before bed and with a shot of whiskey-I recommend Southern Comfort.

I know it doesn't do anything but I still take Airbournes at the first sign of a cold. I think the Vitamin B gives me a lift.

Otherwise once I have a cold I like chicken soup with lots of garlic. I sauté some chopped garlic lightly then add the soup (usually Progresso) and then some sliced garlic. The sliced garlic doesn't cook much so its almost raw.

I love Zicam....either the spray or the gel swabs that you use up your nostrils.

But like someone already said, "A treated cold lasts a week and an untreated cold lasts seven days."

Tropicana Orange Juice (the one with 50% less sugar), lots of water, vitamins and sleep. I absolutely refuse to take medication for a cold (the only exception being VapoRub).

Continue with (or) workout !! Keep Strong. you know you feel better after a workout.
Be sure to floss your teeth. Healthy gums can help keep you healthy.
Have cinnamon in your oatmeal, or coffee. It may help you from getting sick.
Vitamins, Water (Fluids) and I enjoy a good nasal douch in the shower.
