I just moved back to the Bay Area, and was looking around for some Christians on RJ to get some suggestions about churches, and even make some new friends! Looking forward to seeing what kind of help I get from this site.

When I was backpacking the USA in 1978 and 1995, I visited Grace Cathedral on the summit of Nob Hill, San Francisco.

But I think it is a much more intimate fellowship you're seeking. The best thing I would suggest is Googling something like "Churches in the Bay area" or something similar.

I bet a huge list appears on your screen. You would have a wide choice to make.

I used to love attending Grace Cathedral (Episcopal) when I lived in SF. Episcopalians do not condemn GLBT community. You will find a wide variety of any denomination that you are seeking.

Go the most homophobic church you can find.

In the middle of the first anti-gay sermon you hear, walk up to the podium and start screaming at the preacher that he's going to hell for teaching his "flock" to hate other groups of people. icon_biggrin.gif

I think it depends upon the type of community which you are seeking.

You might want to think about "What are the characteristics of a church that I would like to belong to?, and "What are the characteristics of a church which I would not like to belong to?"

Then use this criteria to do a "first sort" based upon publicly available knowledge.
Then, go visit some of the churches in person.

Also, ask friends where they go.
