Humble VS Arrogant VS Pathetic

Whenever I compliment someone, for example when I say they are hott, I get one of these answers:

    1) Thank you
    2) Oh yah I'm OK or LOL no I'm not
    3) Yeah, I know

More than the 1 and 3, I seem to find a lot of guys say number 2. I know a lot of guys on here say that and they are REALLY hott. That kind of bothers me and makes me feel like I am too arrogant. I wouldn't say number 3 if someone complimented me, but I think I am good looking. Does this bother you? Is it even attractive? I feel like when a hot guy says this everyone seems to say, "aww don't say that, you are a hottie" or something to that matter. Why are we accepting that and coddling them?

Hmmm people who reply to me usually say thank or pay a compliment back to me....

Nobody has yet to say Thanks, I know I'm a hottie.....icon_confused.gif

You can tell quite a bit about character on how people take a compliment. Fortunately character/personality is what I'm attracted to most. Sometimes it's best to compliment someone and just see if they are 'right sized'.

I find it funny when people mistake #1 for #3 (I almost always use #1 when complimented).

About once a year someone will respond saying that I'm arrogant for "only" saying thank you, and not complimenting them back. It doesn't bother me, though. I just laugh at their insecurity and don't reply. icon_lol.gif

I always say thank you and even extend a thanks if they hot list me. I agree, if someone finds that arrogant they are VERY insecure. Anyone who replies with #3 must have an ego so inflated all it will take is one rejection for it to burst.

Truth is, if all you have is a profile to go by, than a "hot guy" is merely a photogenic guy, nothing else. There is absolutely no way for me to know if someone is hot until I've gotten to know them a bit. That is why I find internet dating so difficult.

Hmm, this might actually change the way I handle a compliment. Cause normally I just use #3, but in a jovial tone. Then I go on and laugh so ppl know that I'm joking, which is crucial, then I use #1. Is this okay? Or would u think I'm arrogant?

I think that the internet totally makes it easy to misinterpret one's message and one's response to that message. Even smiles and exclamation points are hard to interpret. It's like when a guy emails me for the first time and says, "How are you!!!!" I read that differently than "Hey man, what's up?"
Or "Heya handsome! : )" versus "Hey... nice pic btw". The message is the same but it's easy to fill in the blanks incorrectly and make assumptions.

Instant messaging is even worse to the extent where I no longer accept IM except from certain friends because of all the dropped conversations.

Idk how to respond other than "thank you." It is nice receiving compliments though and I appreciate them.

I'm not sure they can win with you...
    1...is polite
    2...is humble..
3...is either joking or an ass...

    what more do you want?

I will always say thank you.
If I find the person who's complimenting me attractive, I'll definitely compliment them too.

What he did is shady. He complimented you just because he wanted the same compliment back? Or is it a way he shows his interest, and he felt he's turn down?

No.1 is the only acceptable answer. The other 2 just signal they still need to grow up a little.
