Sup guys, I was on youtube looking up random music and came across a scene from Nightmare on Elm Street and was wondering what sub-category of rock was the music from, I know the title and performer of the song but just curious about the category of rock music it fits into. and also another song I found came from an '89 movie (which was the year I was born, lol). I know some of this music is beyond my time but I can't help but to like it and want to lookup other songs or bands from that era.
I cant embed the first vid (as per request) but here is the link

That is just awful 80's movies soundtrack music. There were many good soundtracks released in the eighties- Teen Witch wasn't one of them. As for the Nightmare on Elm Street track, that is not even the song originally used in that part, but instead something substituted when they couldn't get permission from the band Dokken (equally terrible music) to use the song on the video release that had been in the original theatrical version.

Granted not the type of reply I was looking for, but a reply nonetheless, lol. Any suggestions then?

I dunno. Those songs were like made for the movie. That style of music is really cheezy, and more along the lines of 80's general pop rock. Maybe you should explore "hair metal". It's the closest genre to those songs you referenced.
