they promise to help consolidate and reduce excessive credit card and high percentage mortgage payments.

has anyone used them; or know of anyone who used them?

i've read that many of these "debt reduction" sites are merely tools of the credit card companies.......

Lower My Bills is a legit company owned by Experian, who is most noted for their credit reporting agency.

These companies do not do anything you can not do yourself. ANY one can consolidate their debt and negotiate better interest rates. In fact, it is an excellent way to truly understand personal finance and not be victimized by predatory institutions.

They are all the same..Use to work for one.. There are regulations behind what they can and cannot do. Most of the stuff they do you can do yourself. Some attorneys can help you reduce your debts as well..

All debt consolidation does is lower your monthly payments, then extend the length of time you'll be paying, which adds up to paying more than you originally owed because they throw their fee in with the final amount. That's how they make their money.

A good rule of thumb to keep in mind when it comes to these sort of things would be..."When It Sounds Too Good To Be True, It Probably Is"

I'd approach it all with caution. You hear too many bad stories about fly by night companies that promise way too much.. "restore credit" kind of
    things.

Best to assume that about 95% of that kind of stuff is scams.
