I know that gay pride tattoos are a controversail topic and that is why I'm bringing it up. For about 5 months I've been thinking about getting my second tattoo. I want six stars in a slightly wavy line with black wavy lines that creates movement. The stars would be the colors of the rainbow and I'm thinking about getting the tattoo on my thigh and would go towards the back to create more movement. I'm thinking about getting the tattoo in the next few months. What do you guys think of pride tattoos?

Gay pride is always a controversial topic.

Tattoos are not much of a controversial topic anymore...

...except for on RealJock, of course.

If it has meaning to you, go ahead it get it done. You are the one that needs to be happy with it, not anyone else.

Thanks. If I decide to do it it will be for me. I just am curious on how people will react.

One of my friends has the equal rights sign (clearly just an equal sign) on his arm. I have always liked that idea. I might get it somewhere one day. Who knows...

They will say you're wearing your sexuality on your sleeve.
Unless the tattoo is somewhere other than on your arm.

It's your body, do what you will. I personally find rainbow anything tacky. This does remind me of a "pride" tattoo I saw when browsing for local tattoo artists here in Seattle. A local artist here (in the middle Seattle' gayborhood) did a classic pinup style tattoo of an almost-nude male sailor on a guy's chest...

It's not exactly a "pride" tattoo, but people will certainly know which way the wearer swings. icon_wink.gif

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidHow do you differentiate between an ideological tattoo and one that has personal significance?

If it has 'personal significance' to a wide range of people - it's most likely ideological.

I wouldn't get a tattoo myself, but everyone expresses themselves in different ways so you should do what makes you happy and not worry about what everyone else thinks.

Wonder if a lesbian would want the similar tattoo, on with vaginas.

This is a major tattoo FAIL!!

I personally do not care for gay pride things like rainbows......but I fully support individual choices and freedoms! So I wouldnt really care if a guy I met had a pride tattoo!

Being honest, I've always thought pride tattoos were kinda tacky. But it's your body and you're choosing to do what you want with it. People are going to have an opinion on it regardless. If it means something to you, that's all that matters. I know a girl with a Pikachu on her calf. I think it's stupid. I won't tell her. She wells up in tears just talking about what it means to her. What are you gonna do?

I am against anything cliche. This includes rainbow tattoos and bear paw tattoos, and especially rainbow bear paw tattoos.
