How many of you have had or would consider having some sort of cosmetic surgery? What do you think of people who have had these types of procedures done?

I got a Harry Potter lightning bolt scar surgically placed on my wrist. It is awesome!

Because the surgeon had cut my wrist open for my cosmetic surgery, he also fixed a broken bone while he was there.

Cosmetic surgery is the choice of the insecure.

see I totally disagree. I have a friend who got a nose job and it totally changed her life. I think it's great in moderation just gives you more choices in life.

And blanket statements such as this are ignorant. I've never had cosmetic surgery but if it were something I wanted, I don't think that would make me insecure for choosing that route. Life is too short to live with something that makes you miserable.

My friends who have gotten boob jobs and nose jobs are happier with their appearances. TRUE. But it's the need to change that so strong that I'm pointing at. I don't fault anyone for it because we all have insecurities but cosmetic surgery is drastic, in my opnion.

It's a matter of opinion. You shouldn't be so intolerant of other people's opnion. The question was posed and I answered. Obviously others will feel differently.

Working out is like dirt cheap cosmetic surgery!

I feel that there's a big difference between working out and surgery. For one, the instant gratification of surgery. Two, biologically altering your form and putting synthetic material in body.
I suppose I could agree that one who works out everyday could be just as insecure as one who goes in for plastic surgery. It's the method of alteration I have a problem understanding.

I think plastic surgery has its place, am all for it when it comes down to helping burn victims and people that have been disfigured etc am sure many people have benefited from it. That is the only reason id consider it. Next....

Everybody is "insecure" to some degree when it comes to their looks --- ESPECIALLY gay men. Plastic surgery is simply an option available to those who can afford it to improve on what god gave you or on what could use some fixing. Not any different than someone who gets braces to straighten their teeth or changes their hair color.

I wouldn't condemn anyone for having cosmetic surgery, I'd only say they should be concerned to get a natural looking result. (i.e. not melon-like breast implants). But in my experience most people who have small changes done to feel happier about their looks get what they wanted and feel better for it. And to me they look fine even if I thought they looked fine before, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that they feel they've improved their quality of life.

I think I'll get my ears pinned back one of these days because I will feel less self-conscious about my appearance. It's because of insecurity about other people's reactions that I still have NOT done it! But once upon a time other people told me not to lift weights and I'm glad I ignored them.

My dad's a plastic surgeon and says the same thing! He basically does burn work and actually thinks that people who elect to have surgery have psychological problems.

For years, I thought his position was extreme, but when I gained some weight following my mother's death, I just had it lipoed off. Problem was it came back. So I had to do it the old fashioned way, I worked it off (and it stayed off).

Bottom line, there's NOTHING wrong with plastic surgery, but it often doesn't work. So, if you can do it another way, you should. (BTW lipo hurts like hell!)

I've considered a skin graph to fix my "second bellybutton" (old injury). But then again, I actually kinda think it's hot. icon_lol.gif
