Was this American Bandstand?
Possible, and I wasn't a fan of the show at the time, never did like that kind of music. Factors against it being Bandstand:
- The set (and there were many of the years) usually had more of a prom feel to it.
- The audience didn't usually dance behind the performer, who was more typically up against the set.
- The camera work is wrong, focused on the performer the whole time. Bandstand used to cut away to showcase the dancers from the audience, with additional cameras to cover them, often with high boom shots.
- Wide cover shots of the dance floor would usually include Dick Clark at his podium.
So overall this doesn't seem like the American Bandstand I remember, but I can't totally rule it out.
