Adam Lopez currently holds the World's record for the highest note a male singer could hit icon_smile.gif Check him out!

His whistles are quite lighter compared to Mimi's but well, he's good enough for a guy !!! icon_biggrin.gif

    No.

She's actually a great singer that can [used to?] hit the whistle register. He's a meh to eh singer [let's be real here] that can sorta do a whistle.

Why was he singing a whole octave higher than he needed to be, I'm a crap singer (Sing Star trained! icon_razz.gif ) but I could sing along and not go that bloody high!

ok before anyone grabs their blowtorch to start a flame war this is just my opinion and I am not trying to hate on Mariah but I always thought she kinda sounded like a dolphin when you did all the screeching. It seems gimicky.

First.. as a singer my self.. his breathing techniques are terrible and you do not sing sitting down!! To start with! Just because you can sing in your head voice doesnt make you better then Mariah!

That's Blasphemy to make this type of comparison to Mariah Carey!

    TAKE IT BACK!

HAHAH. Mariah sounded like a dolphin ^^^...That's just funny. Mariah in her whistle register beats this guy screaching through strained vocal chords. However, I do think he has a great baritone voice and handles it well...icon_biggrin.gif

OMG// So disturbing I want to post again.

As a boy! if you went through puberty - you can't the same exact way as a woman.. Thats why there are ranges, octaves.

Unless you are " il castrato"

When you can sing like Farinelli and have " homos" falling... then you are better then mariah carey!

I don't sing, but have to agree with you. He has no power behind his high notes. He's not using his diaphram when he's reaching the note.

I've seen this guy before... as a die hard fan of Ms. Mariah Carey... I can say that while he tries, and while its cool that he has some vocal control and a big range... his voice just isnt that great. It just doesnt sound that great. No soul, no great tone.... He does have a good low range. He'd be wise to focus attention to that range with his singing icon_smile.gif

The following videos will explain why... NOBODY... not even the fabulous Whitney Houston, can do what Mariah does.

Now... this, done in 2005... Vision of Love... is a wonderful example of why Mariah is Mariah. From the highs to the lows to a nice throaty growl... her voice is unbelieveable.... Watch the whole thing and see how she finishes the song. INSANE!!

Another example of her vocal perfection: She sings "my saving grace" ... its a slow song but the vocals get insane at about 2:00. At 2:16 she actually sings the words "hope when I" in her whistle register.... which no one else can do! The quality and power of her belts in this performance are unmatched.

Here, in 2009... she sings "I want to know what love is." The song is a bit breathy at the beginning for my taste (sorry Mariah!) .... but she perfected and owns the whisper notes anyway. At the end of the song (Skip to 2:15ish) she shows her power - AGAIN - and then does a perfect run in the whistle register. Talk. About. Vocal. Control.

Mariah doing a Patti Labelle tribute: Amazing lows and a fantastic transition from low to a belting note in "over the rainbow" at the very end... with amazing melismas throughout....

And lastly... a video on her whistle note itself! UGH, God I love this woman and her voice.

I sort of thought the same thing about the sitting down part. But what about people who sit and play the piano and sing? Hym? icon_neutral.gif

You can do it! sound will still come out. you can even sing upside down but for best performance standing is best. it would have helped with his breathing and sound effects

Notice how he is trying to project his voice and attempts to lift himself up when he does. You can push hard when you are standing and all that is part of vocal control. he is an amateur.

All i really noticed is that he has a cute falsetto and cute really doesnt go for falsetto.icon_razz.gif

Wow what so great about a whistle. I'm sorry people think mariah carey is only person that can whistle check out lisa fisher or chante moore. Mariah hasn't sounded great since the 90s she traded that voice for her diva status. She need to keep that voice in the studio because its not working on the stage

Breathing for singing is a coordination activity. It is much like riding a bike or being able to dance well. It can be taught, and there is a component of talent. I have had to sing operatic material while doing push ups, sommersaults, and rolling around on the ground...In other words, you can sing in any position you damn well please as long as you have the coordination down...

He's alright. It's a little disconcerting to go from a baritone register to whistle tones ,but a fun trick. I have fun with them myself from time to time, but that's not what makes a great singer. It's connection to the material, making the listener FEEL what you want them to get from a song. Phrasing, breath control, dynamics.

With Mariah, she can make you feel a song! Same with the Farinelli clip HavenJock 80 posted. WOW!

And as carterp91 said, Lisa Fischer, Chante Moore (LOVE her), and let's not forget Minnie Riperton and Denise Williams. Christina Aguillera can get up there, and a couple of female friends of mine. Again, the whistle tones are just one of the tricks in a talented singer's bag.

haha.... she hasnt sounded great since the 90's.... oh boy here we go with the delusions! Obviously her voice is not the same as when she was 21. Thats normal, its been 20 years.... but she can sing. Look up her Christmas 2011 performances........... and all of the ones I posted........ all in the 2000's.

    You're all wrong, buddy! Sorry!
