Things I'd change about RJ.com

We love the RJ team (he said, by way of innoculation), but there's always room for improvement. This thread is for folks to give the RJ team feedback.

    My thing:

Does anyone else feel that the behavior that results when clicking on a profile's thumbnail picture is like an annoying game of Wack-A-Mole? I don't know how many times I'm trying to click thru a couple interesting thumbnails on some guy's profile page, only to have the thumbnails rearrange and force me have to rescan the entire set of thumbs to decide where to put my mouse on the next click.

Every time I do this (what, 1,000 times now?) I feel like someone is moving the food on my plate around just before I try to stab it with my fork. OY IT DRIVES ME CRAZY! I usually give up and navigate using the "gallery" option - where I can leave witty comments as well (it took me a while to find out that the gallery view was the only way to leave comments).

Yahoo Personals is an example of a nice profile photo interface that doesn't have this problem.

OK, that's my user interface rant. The rest of the site is actually pretty clean tho.

    K

PS In the kudos department: I'm glad the home page was restored a little bit recently, once again showing more "who's on" thumbnails and letting us once again see the active forum topics without too much scrolling. Shows someone is paying attention, which is nice.

I agree with you quite a bit on that one.

Yeah! I figured I was the only one that hated the moving of the thumbnails thing! Also, I'd add blogs!!

Blogs? RealJock meets LiveJournal (cuz MySpace and all those are for amateurs... icon_wink.gif ...). That could be interesting.

I don't have any issues with the above concerns.... there could be minor improvements, but I think largely they are doing about as well as can be expected.

    In FORUMS:
I'd like to be able to track a particular person and all of his posts. Yes, you can see some of his posts by going to his profile, but that gets tedious and time consuming if you want to keep up on the thoughts and musings of more than one or two guys.

it'd be nice to make some updates on the way we view and interact with hot/buddy lists. also, email is weird - i can't think of what in particular is annoying about it, but after you send a message you don't go anywhere. there's lots of excess mouse clicking that could be reduced by reconfiguring auto-links, image display, list display, etc.

It would be nice if when you are typing in a new forum topic it warns you of similar topics that have already been posted. I don't know how many topics I have seen about how to be a better "bottom". I mean really there is only so much advice you can provide about that topic right?

i dunno if it's just me, but whenever i try to search for as topic in the forums i just get a list of what appears to be random threads. be nice if we could search within the title, original poster, original post content and the like.

Do you know that if you scroll down on a person's profile, there is a list of all the threads he has posted to?

I would like to be able to edit the title of a thread after I have posted it.

...and I am wondering if there is something screwy going on with the threads. They seem to be missing and then turn up again. Or they are there but dont show any responses.

Some of the threads say they have 200+ responses, but when I look at them they seem to be far fewer than that. Maybe some people are taking out their responses, but the counter remains the same?

There's something funky with the line spacing. I'm always rediting removing excessive line spacing.

Other than that, everything is pretty slick. icon_smile.gif

I'll agree about the whack-a-mole photos.

And also the blogs -- even though I'm not a blogger. Just, site like this, sometimes good to be able to write about progress and such without posting in the forum.

I think added content and features is mostly what this site needs. Not much to subtract or change.

Maybe more features for interacting with members in addition to the forums... a chat might be nice to have in addition to the instant messaging, maybe. Not sure if it's completely needed, though.

This is a damn good website but just throwing out an added idea ... Maybe an area where you can submit local info with reviews on gyms, type of cliental, equipment, personal trainers etc. I'm sure a lot of guys have gotten email asking about their preferred gym or any info they can give locally.
