    Hey guys,
Spring time has come and a girl friend of mine is arranging a camping trip for 3 days.. Thursday to Sunday.

I think I've got all the basics, but I feel like I'm missing something. I'm going with 2 girls, and one straight couple. I know I'm missing something..

Can you guys help me with a checklist?
    Tent camping no electricity.

    ...

ALSO: Something fun on the side, what would be your perfect date activity for you and a partner?

I love camping! You should definately bring a small oil lamp (very helpful at night), a side ax (it's fun to go to the wood and chop off some death branches to make a fire at night), peanuts or pitaschio (I like to throw the shells into the fire, something fun about it), canned fruits to make cocktails on a hot afternoon, etc.

Oy, amateurs and wimps, all of you! icon_biggrin.gif

Ok, first let's start with the equipment that you already have, give me a list of that. Then we can go from there.

    Cool?

Also, is the food going to be shared, fend for yourself, not sure...??

I don't camp much, because my bedroom floor doesn't have enough space to set up a tent on, and the livingroom floor is just plain uncomfy. If I had to camp...outdoors... *shudders* I'd make sure I had a couple sherpas to carry my luggage and food. icon_razz.gif

But seriously...alcohol. Lots and lots and lots of alcohol. Then, even cold river/lake-water baths, charred hotdogs, and squatting in the woods are almost tolerable.

Uh, me! I love camping.. well, I love fishing, camping is unavoidable side effect of fishing, but is required to round out a proper fishing trip! Fishing then going back to your hotel room is heresy!

    What I take:
    Fishing:
    Rod & reel
    Bait case

    Bedding:
    Cot*
    Puss pad
    Sleeping bag

    Food:
Alcohol, lots of it - you have the best sleep in your life out camping, only later do you attribute it to your inebriated state. icon_biggrin.gif Tangling 4 fishing lines is a lot more fun when everyone involved is drunk.
Water unless there is tap at the camp site
.. I let the other suckers bring the good stuff, I just bring some artisan bread (date nut bread) to tide me over. You'll be glad you brought something you can just munch on when the big ham & eggs breakfast isn't doable because it rained all night.

    Misc:
First aid kit, with needle nose pliers (very important)
Hand soap, washcloth, small water tub (you'll at least want to wash you face/neck each morn)
    Water container
    Pocket/hunting knife
    Hand axe
    Personal plate/bowl/cup and utensils
Flashlights/lanterns/headlamps or other hand free lamp
Trashbags and something to store your clothes in (I don't sleep dressed when camping you don't want to drop your clothes on the ground.)

I think it's a pain in the ass to set up a tent so I don't bother, I just sleep outside, thus I need a cot. If you suspect it's going to rain, well, better plan ahead, just find out if your supposed to take your own tent. They make really nifty single man tents now, you just take off a strap and drop it and it sets itself up.

oooh camping, I loooove camping, but I'd prefer not at a camp site..

Theres nothing better then it taking hours to finally reach your site, where you can not hear another soul, you are, truly alone at that point.

You can spend ages there but a week is good, yes, you'll smell a little, yes, you don't have a hair dryer and hot water, nope, you wont have a kitchen or any modern convenience, but, why would you want them, when you can get so close to nature, to experience it in ways most people never get the opportunity.

Stop being wimpy guys, get out there and get dirty!

I haven't done it in so long though, all ma mates are too busy now to go camping and its not as much fine alone.

We really do need to know more specifics though, the list for camp site stuff is quite different to say a 5 day hike.

Ok, I'll change my answer. If lilTanker takes me, I will go! .... icon_biggrin.gif

(these emoticons need a really cheesy smile)

OMG...liltanker is 6'2. Shouldnt there be a rule about truth in nicknames? ... icon_evil.gif .... Well, at least he can give me a good boost up a tree if a bear comes around.

I'll still take you camping short stuff icon_razz.gif

I got called tank because I'd flatten anyone that got in my way in footie. Then the little got put on it because of my personality, everyone thinks I'm gentle and sweet, and well, the er just ended up there.

So some of my mates just call me tank or liltank icon_smile.gif

I am an Eagle Scout and have camped more than Jesus Christ. And I have only one suggestion:

zdrew saidBut seriously...alcohol. Lots and lots and lots of alcohol.

You can state awe struck at the glories of nature for only so long. And please, plack glass stemware. A cosmo in a plastic cocktail glass is simply uncouth.

Make sure you take the appropriate sleeping bag for the nighttime temperature. There's nothing worse than too cold or two warm a bag.

Also, Thermarests are *quintessential* to a good nights sleep. Take one of those too.

Aside from that, you can get really carried away on equipment.... the more you pay the smaller it is generally. But if you have a car nearby, you don't need the fancy stuff.

Remember bugspray and anti-insect candles. And a torch.

    Enjoy camping, dude!
