is it just me or does it sound like almost all of Adele's songs sound like they are written by a brokenhearted gay man?

Especially the first song. sounds like someone scorned by a guy who wants to go back to playing house with a wife and kids, and forget about the guy he left behind. anyone else see it?

Pretty much. I thought she was listed under wikipedia as a gay icon, but I checked and she's not there. However, on top of that Rumor has it reminds me of Mean Girls in a way, and a LOT of people reference that movie on this forum.

I'm glad you reference Someone Like You to just gay men... since you know, not everyone can experience a broken heart and still feel for that person.

    You crazy gays.

No, they are written by Adele, she is a women. She writes on broad topics that everyone relates too. Including gay men, bi men, straight men, lesbians, straight women etc... Don't know anyone who can find a moment/emotion to attach to one of her songs. Relationship pain is universal.

The Sun (ok, it is not the New York Times) says the ex boyfriend sued her for getting a part of the royalties. He claims he inspired her to write the songs. Classy.

I remember reading she had written "Set Fire to the Rain" to be of a more gay anthem. That being said, I never felt like any of her songs were such type-casted. Love and heartbreak is universal, something Adel captured magnificently; evident in her album's longevity on the charts.

Albeit I can still count all the guys I ever loved on the one hand, and it's now over half my lifetime ago that I did last split with another guy, when I was only a child of 24.

If ever I run into one of my ex loves, except the first one. It's always nice to meet and great and spend some time with them, as I was once in love with them, and still to this day behold a love for them.

So one at almost 50, is no broken hearted poofter. I can die knowing I have truly been loved, and as fare away as Moscow Russia too.

Now the one and only Ms M the devine Betty Middler is a gay Icon. But........Adele has not been around long enough to be bestowed that honer, as the Divine Miss M has. A true Gay Icon.

I think it`s probably your reading of her songs. They sound too general to be specifically gay.I like 'Rolling in the Deep' more for its sound and style of rock/pop than anything else.

I find it amazing how similar "gay" loving is to "straight" loving. We are not that different...icon_wink.gif

I have no comment other than to say Someone Like You is a song that just gives me chills and nearly puts me in a trance every time I hear it. Her vocals and emotions in that song is so palpable you can almost cut it with a knife. Adele is amazing.

Guys, there is no harm whether her songs are gay or straight, they are about emotions and feelings of hatred or being brokenhearted...

She is a great singer and has an amazing voice, enjoy her while she's still in her glory days! and wish she can keep it up!

FYI, the song of HIDING MY HEART AWAY is the best, just listen to it deeply!

I have her CD stuck in my car recorder, its broken i can't get it out, lucky me!!

Seriously guys, stop gaying up songs and singers, Enjoy it!! icon_biggrin.gif

I hope she is taking care of herself. Compare this to the version posted above...she completely avoids her upper range. Stay healthy Adele...that voice is too incredible to get messed up!

Well she may be a gay icon. But she is not a gay man. She is not a waif with a 6 pack so she isn't one of the gays.icon_biggrin.gif

PS... I think that a sign of a truly great song is that it can be adapted in multiple formats (country, dance, pop, etc) and that different groups of people think that it was written just for them.

    Bravo Adele!

She is. After canceling her tour midway (including Atlanta) from laryngitis, she's back on, and being careful. BTW--supposedly, she says her next album will be country.
