Losing my focus in the gym

    Hi guys.

I've been working out seriously for over a year now. When I started, after a lifetime of lounging, I worked with a trainer for 6 sessions and he built me 3 programs. One was a basic 3 day a week strength one, because I was a beginner, a 4 day a week one, focussing on upper body and lower body and full body and the last one was a super powered 4 day a week workout, sort of an extension of the second one.

The problem is that I have done each of the three programs twice now and I'm not sure what to do next. I get bored easily.

I really love working out at the gym and this fall I'm thinking of doing some triathlon training, but that could be several months and I want to keep building and working out.

I'd like a good 4 day a week workout that builds muscle and keeps challenging me. Two days a week I do cardio and sundays I rest.

    Any suggestions?

Go check out your local crossfit gym. The workouts are great and change every day. Most crossfit gyms have a free class that you can go to as often as you like to check it out. Give it a shot, you might like it.

Nothing gives you razor sharp gym focus like getting dumped.

(can't be just me, can it?)

On the fourth month of taking a break (new job), meeting someone breathtaking and my back flab has returned, with friends.

    Motivated yet?

Cardio can be boring. I've done the ellipticals, spinning, AMT machine, boring, boring, boring.

Running? Well, treadmills and city streets require focus to make sure I don't trip and faceplant on the belt...

    It's my chosen cardio now.

I know it's superficial but when all else fails just sign up for a gay gym. You see so many hot guys and it just motivates you to keep pushin. Also, take a trip to a place like Barcelona where beautiful men are plentiful and trust me you'll come back and force yourself to keep working hard. I dunno it worked for me.....

It might work for others too... but reminded me that I pulled a back muscle while working out a month or so ago at the gym while distracted (looking at a guy). It disabled me for nearly a week so I think I learned a lesson (don't look at guys while actually working out - concentrate seriously on the workout).

i have the same problem and I lose motivation. it helps me having a workout partner or someone just to meet up at the gym with.

I need to be held accountable but I have also been seeing the results in the scale recently so I want to keep seeing it go down.

    Mix and match.
Combine pieces of each program into one of your own.
    Change it every week.
Keep up with which muscles groups are worked so you continue to get a balanced workout every week.
