I've noticed over the past couple of years that many guys wear tank tops under their t-shirts (which are tight and that's how I notice them), and I'm wondering why this is. Is it to tame protruding chest hair and/or nipples? Or is there some fashion trend I'm unaware of?

It facilitates the "slow strip" popular with the boys. Come into the gym with a knit cap, sweats. First layer off is the sweatshirt, revealing a loose-fit T-shirt. Then, under that is the tight T-shirt. Finally, once that T-shirt comes off you get treated to the tramp stamp or henna tattoo visible through their ill-fitting tank top that they've been saving as their last reveal. So much time undressing, so little time for a workout.

Except not so much in the arm pits, since most tanks don't have cloth there.

It's underwear, bro, hence the reason why they are sold in the underwear department of your local clothing store. Same reason why people wear underpants under their pants- To absorb sweat and body odors. Me personally, I prefer nothing under my outer clothes.

Fashion statement? Sure. Isn't anything a gay man wears on his body is a fashion statement? icon_lol.gif

The deodorant has me covered under there, the tank pretty much takes care of the rest.

I wear a beater under my shirt everyday. To be honest I don't really know why, but I just like it and have been doing it for a long time, so I'm used to it. It's really not that big of a deal.

I do it because my nips poke out, and i dont like it.
Its like when women go braless and their nips poke out like torpedoes, quite tacky.

if you have ever sampled the heat & humidity that IS new orleans this time of the year; you would understand the need for a perspiration absorbing under shirt.

It's not what you're talking about but what I notice at the gym is guys wearing a tank top under a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off with the arms hole cut way down low. I wear that kinda t-shirt but with no tank top underneath - what's the point??

It means I have to wash tshirts less if I wear a wifebeater underneath, and its warm in the winter, and cool in the summer, its just a magical thing.
