You mean you wish you could go climbing. Hiking can be done on flat land as well and can be a lot of fun.

Wish in one hand, shit in the other, and see which one fills up first.

I lived in Florida for about 37 years of my life and WISHED for a hill other than "Mt. Trashmore" off of Florida's Turnpike and Sample Road. It was only when I moved to Honolulu that I could say THIS IS HIKING!!!! Now, living in San Francisco, "Urban Hiking" is a daily treat. I love when streets go upward. I love when they become "stairs" (ala the Lyon Street Stairs, Pacific Heights). My calves have never looked or felt better!

@Scruffypup - With all due respects, trudging along flat ground with heat, humidity, sawgrass, gators, snakes, and mosquitoes (which could suck a small dog dry on one landing) is NOT my idea of "hiking". haha!

@kashifdon - As much as I loved growing up in South Florida (Lauderhill/Sunrise), my hiking life really began once I started getting out of South Florida. If you love hiking, don't wait. Move! Try somewhere along the Rockies or the Cascades if you really love hiking.

    Fuck hiking....

I lived in Florida for 21 years...we would go canoeing down the Hillsborough river, airboat riding, snorkeling, scuba diving (just kidding I didn't actually do all that).

But I did take my X once to go canoeing in the river. It was at the park. For $25 at the time, they give you a boat and 2 paddles. You paddle for like 2 miles and we seen a few gators. It is so scary to think an alligator is going to jump out the water and pull you under. People would look at us weird like, what are these 2 guys in their 20s doing in a boat together? But we didn't give a fuck.

You can also walk thru the dry trails and wetlands. Most of that I learned in elementary school.

Comparing Florida to Colorado, although they have a lot of mountains and hills and stuff here, they don't have as many animals like Florida does. I used to find turtles and snakes all the time and bring them home as pets. Here, they just kill all the animals they come across.

you must didn't go everywhere. There was Zephyr Hills (where all the water bottles came from) which had lots of hills. Then north Florida around Tallahassee had some steep inclines.

But you're right, most of Florida is very flat. The only elevation you get is from the waves that come during hurricane season, which can be 15-20 feet high icon_neutral.gif

What I didn't like were the saw-toothed Palmettos and the dark waters that you didn't know what the hell were in them. And one time, I poked myself right in the pupil on a Spanish Bayonet. When I went in for an eye exam, the doctor could see a hole in my eye LOL.

Lots of good hiking in Florida, although of course "hiking" is a euphemism for taking a walk on a flat trail through the woods. The Florida (National Scenic) Trail is great, and three National Forests mean there are plenty of trails... and you can hiking naked too. icon_smile.gif
