EDIT: This thread is old. Ignore it, as I have.

I don't hear any gayness in my voice, more like too rocky sometimes. But for the first time I got a "voice is too effeminate" from a commenter on Youtube. Be kind. Is it that bad? Just listen to the first ten seconds. Oh, I'm the narrator.

The voice is admittedly softer than the stereotypical gruff-sounding Marine sergeant voice, but I quickly lost track of that and focused on what was being said.

It's so sad to see this playing out in real life. Men who used to get together, drink beer, and constantly hit/smack/grope/wrestle each other now sit 2-3 feet apart and complain that the halftime show doesn't have enough girls.

Not that bad, but I do hear a little gay in it. I have a college degree in Speech.

The middle "s" in the word "ourselves" is the most obvious to me, just a bit sibilant. Tone isn't bad, but diction could be a bit sharper overall.

Our own voice is often a shock when we hear it played back. I don't much care for my own, though I'm told by others I have a professional "radio" voice, and in fact have done a lot of voice work.

So don't overreact and get discouraged by a YouTube comment. If you want some improvement then find a voice coach. I don't think you need a Speech Therapist, which is more for severe speech impediments, which you do not have.

I think it just sounds like you are hardcore from the north, like Buffalo or something. Everyone sounds like you from there.

At the risk of embarrassing myself further, I just reposted this clip I did in 2008 (after a glass of wine) to see if it would appeal to homophobes. In other words, I wanted to see how people commented on a forceful admittance that wrestling was hot. So when you hear me say "You're not gay, you're normal," realize I did that just as a test to see how homophobes would react. The clip never got a bad comment ever back then. It told me that if you act manly enough, most guys would agree.

I thought the voice in the second video was every bit as butch as most things I hear from straight guys, no real hint of gay. Except for that little finger jab at about 00:59, but that's body English, not voice.

No, I thought the voice was pretty good. And the script had a spontaneous improvisational character to it that fit the topic and the delivery. So that even if it wasn't polished, I think it worked for what it was supposed to do.

ok this is nothing to do with your voice , (p.s you have a sexy voice) im ranting at the people thinking wrestling is gay, i often get this from football players, or people in sport that practically cant to the sport of "wrestle"/ "BJJ", OR mma" so they just say its gay, this is my sport and i hate people disrespecting it, sorry to jibber jabber on, it just fucks me of, also when soccor/football players claim to "get hit" and start rolling on the flooR and start squeeling like little girls, they have no idea at what pain goes through doing wresling and MMA sorry i just felt a bit GRRRR

That's another topic. No sport is gay. However, many sports have homoerotic qualities that may or may not be recognized or enjoyed by its members and/or viewers....unless in private. And when someone says something looks "gay," they are admitting that they see the homoeroticism in it (and it makes them uncomfortable.) Again, another topic.

I'm assuming you're literally looking for a voice critique, otherwise I would never judge someone's voice, so here goes:

I wouldn't say your voice sounds "gay." Okay, well maybe a little. But my first impression was that it sounded wimpy. Think Mister Rogers. Sometimes that's nothing more than not being confident enough in what you're doing. Get excited about what you're narrating next time and focus on how you feel about the story. Some will say I'm asking you to be fake, but I don't see it that way. It's like reminding yourself to have good posture. So untie that paisley sweater from around your neck and speak loud and clear. Oh, and by the way....stand up straight! icon_smile.gif

This sound a little less "Mr. Rogers" for you? I'm the voice behind the camera, and the legs, and the speedo. I think I found my calling. He bites me at the end I think. icon_wink.gif

wrestlervic, I did the Bill test. Simply hit play on the vid while Bill was playing cards on his PC, his back to me.

Neither of us think your voice sounds swishy. Now we're very curious about the commenter's voice, lol!

PS Your voice sounds gay is such a stupid comment. Gays have all kinds of speech inflections, just like *gasp* straights! Gays also speak every language there is, depending on what country they're from.

Here's the guy who made the comment. He wrote: "The narrator is so wrong for´╗┐ this. His voice is too effeminate."

This guy looks like one of those married, closet cases. I should tell him, "That's called fat, not muscle." icon_wink.gif Of course, I won't.

Good topic, the video that is. I had a conversation with my dad as a young teen. It went like this: "Guys aren't supposed to be emotional. We're supposed to be strong." That was the conversation.

The homophobia that exists in American society is because so many guys were deprived of intimacy, so when we feel it is often uncomfortable. We're taught that male intimacy is a slippery slope to getting it in the ass, which equated to being weak. You will note, that not only are American men homophobic, they are specific about the sexual role. If you are a bottom, you are "the girl" and thus the bitch, pussy, faggot etc. It isn't about being gay as much as it is about the idea of being willingly dominated (think: "how could you let another guy fuck you in the mouth or the ass?").

Lack of intimacy has turned into fear of the unknown and superstition. "Hug a guy, you might get hard and turn gay". "Wrestle a guy and it might turn into something more." "Don't sleep in the same bed as another guy or you might bump into each other and turn gay". We are emotionally unaware of ourselves as [straight] men and emotionaly conflicted as [gay] men. I have a lot of thoughts on this....
