http://www.forbes.com/sites/zackomalleygreenburg/2011/03/09/the-forbes-five-hip-hop-wealthiest-artists/Jay-Z has had quite a career thus far. Since 1996 he’s sold over 50 million records worldwide and parlayed his musical success into lucrative businesses in the realms of fashion, cuisine and advertising (for more, check out my new Jay-Z book). When it comes to the size of his fortune, however, Jay-Z is number two among hip-hop artists. The top spot goes to Sean “Diddy” Combs, who tops our first-ever accounting of rap’s richest by net worth.

Fueled by his interests in Sean John clothing, his Bad Boy Worldwide record label and, most significantly, his Diageo joint-venture vodka brand Ciroc, Diddy has a amassed a fortune of $475 million. Jay-Z ranks a close second, with $450 million.

Anyone surprised by the rankings? I never thought Dr. Dre would be so high on the list, it seems like he's been in the shadows since 2001. I mean I know he produces a ton of stuff for people and owns his own label but it seems crazy that Lil Wayne or Kanye could still be trailing him.

    I'm not surprised.

Dr. Dre was able to get to #3 thanks to his Aftermath label, which is a point you acknowledge. But Eminem is on Aftermath and so is 50 cent (Aftermath/Shady). Considering how well the albums and concerts of Eminem and 50 cent have sold, Dr. Dre is making bank. Also, Beats by Dr. Dre is boosting his earnings. I believe Beats is even incorporated into some HP laptops.

I guess I forgot about Dre cuz seeing his name on the list kinda shocked me haha. But basically what 'creature' said. Thanks to Em and 50, he's been able to still make some green.

Dre gets a lot from his labels that he own. Not to mention his new headphones that are going wild on the market. Beats by Dre can also be found in Toshiba computers and some cars too, I believe Chrysler. If you didnt notice, the top 4 guys are at the highest position of the chain. The easiest way to put this is, they run shit pretty much.

I'm surprised Diddy is so high, thought he was mostly washed up now, but that 475 million is impressive.............He's always had his fingers in a lot of pies though, plus the Bad Boy back catalog has some big hits from Biggie etc

PS. Fuck, I thought I had my aerial videos on this computer - oops. Gimme a week and I'll show the video of Ciroc's aerial banner being flown over Diddy's house on Star Island. icon_cool.gif

BTW, "Diddy" owns Ciroc's label. I was the first pilot to fly it. I was also the first pilot to fuck up his first aerial billboard. icon_lol.gif
