Best time to consume Protein

    Hey guys,
    When should I eat my 2 Rib Eye steaks with 160 grams of protein, before or after I workout?

    I suggest that you eat your rib-eye after training, with carbs - because you need carbs after training. But I don't think 160g of protein is doing you much good. There is a point where "more is better" is counterproductive. Just one big serving is the wrong way to go about this. I consume protein all day long. About 60g per serving, 5 to 6 times per day. Whey isolate and concentrate pass your system in about 90 minutes. Meats take longer (I don't know exactly how long). I believe more than the 60g that I take is overkill and the body will dispose of it. Actually, more than 40g is probably too much, but because of how I train and since I take certain supplements that require more protein, I go higher. High protein is sure to be strain on your kidneys, so be sure you drink lots of water all day long.

    According to the Paleo folks, if you avoid protein supplements, you can go over the 30 or 40 grams that is normally considered the limit. Food protein digests slowly, compared to whey protein which digests quickly and may be excreted. I eat 60 grams per meal, 3 times per day. It takes roughly 200 grams of cooked meat to equal 60 grams of protein. I found a wonderful digital scale on sale for $11 and that is how I weigh the meat.

    "They" also say, similar to Hunkmonkey, to eat some sort of carbs, like a little fruit or sweet potato, and some protein, though it does not have to be a whole meal, within 30 minutes of a workout.

    wow thats alot. My trainer always tell me take protein right after we work out. But thats usually a shake not a fred flintstone meal lol. maybe you should break it up like the other guys said.
