Sarah is actually really not that bad. She may not be cut out for politics but she has never been vocally anti-gay in the least.

    Bachmann is the real bitch.

LOL! Exactly! And, of course, the best they can do is claim she is somehow "irrelevant" -- meanwhile Sarah Palin farts and the media practically falls all over themselves to report it. Should she announce her candidacy, we'll see just how "irrelevant" she really is, or who really needs to "get with it". icon_wink.gif

Interesting. A couple of years ago the Republicans here, several of them posting today on this thread, were telling us to vote for McCain & Palin. Because Obama & Democrats weren't gay-friendly enough. And not being gay-friendly enough, we should instead vote for our avowed gay enemies, their Republican opponents. An illogical argument, but that's what we heard from them.

So Obama gets elected. And although acting slower than I would have liked, he's gotten legislation passed to repeal DADT (and more importantly, the underlying laws that prohibit gays from military service), changes which McCain opposes and voted against, and Palin spoke out against.

Plus the Obama DOJ no longer will defend DOMA. May I suggest these are additional things to irritate Republicans on this site? Which they don't want to discuss?

The Republicans here support the politicians who want to retain DADT and DOMA, and they oppose politicians who want to repeal these measures. Now what do you conclude from that?

Let's discuss facts: Republican Presidential candidates Perry, Santorum, Bachmann and Romney have all signed a pledge to support a US constitutional amendment to ban gay marriages and civil unions. It would be the only amendment to the constitution that limits civil rights. And Republicans on this site support one or more of these candidates against any Democrat.

This reveals the farce some present that "I'm gay myself, and am gay supportive, but I endorse nothing but gay-hostile politicians. I vote for and promote politicians who hate gays, but I'm very gay friendly myself. Don't judge me by how I act, just by what I tell you here." icon_rolleyes.gif

As I have said many times in these forums, I don't happen to feel that my "rights" are in danger with a McCain Administration. I know, I know, I've heard it all "Repubs think Gays are 2nd Class Citizens"...blah-blah-blah...well, I don't subscribe to that way of thinking. You do, you're entitled to your opinion, embrace those fears or concerns, whatever, they just don't happen to be mine. I'm sorry, but they're not -- never have been.

Apparently a Republican US Constitutional amendment baring gay marriage and civil unions, the only such amendment ever proposed against a group of citizens, does not make gays second class citizens. An amendment Republicans have been pushing for years, and now the leading candidates have all signed off on it. Fine, just so long as we know how you think: Republicans are no threat to gay civil rights.

Yes, I remember well the constant claims of many RJ right-wingers here over the past few years about how the Repub party was supposedly becoming more supportive of gay rights and there really was no reason to vote Democratic anymore if you care about equal rights for gay Americnas.

Well, the fact that all the major candidates for the Repub preidential nomination have signed a pledge vowing to fight for an amendment to the CONSTUTUTION banning gay marriage reveals all those claims from the RJ right-wingers as absolutely bogus bullshit.

The Repub party is as much or MORE anti-gay than ever.

The above 2008 post doesn't even come close to doing that. Saying that "I don't happen to feel that my 'rights' are in danger with a McCain Administration" is a statement I stand by. You are free to run around scared of The Boogey Man all you like, convincing yourself that the Republicans are out to destroy you, lock you in a cell, and throw away the key -- knock yourself out. I don't subscribe to that "victim" mentality, but you do and that's your prerogative. Some Republicans pushing for a constitutional amendment, and that constitutional amendment actually ever happening are two entirely different things. A Presidential candidate signing some sort of pledge to appease a group to help him/her get elected is one thing...them actually getting elected is another thing...them actually getting elected and seeing such a pledge become law is even quite another. For God's sake GET A GRIP!

Soon these guys will be actively campaigning here for whichever of these Republicans gets the Presidential nomination. And you'll be hearing them saying the same 3 things you heard in 2008 & 2010:

    1. Gay civil rights are of no importance, all that matters is that corporations thrive at any cost. (Despite Republicans having nearly wrecked corporations by letting them run amuck, eventually needing bailouts beginning in the second AND first Bush Administrations. That would be the Savings & Loan collapse thanks to Daddy's & Reagan's policies, and Republicans in Congress, that cost taxpayers billions)

    2. Obama and the Democrats aren't really friends of gays, no better than Republicans when it comes to gay civil rights. Pay no attention to that anti-gay Constitutional amendment behind the curtain. You didn't hear that anti-gay rhetoric coming from Republicans, and written into their platforms at national and states levels. Because Democrats haven't made gay rights their number 1 priority, ahead of fixing the economy, they're as bad as the Republicans on gay issues.

    3. Democrats and Republicans are as equally awful & corrupt overall, and so vote for Republicans because they're better for the economy (See # 1 above).

You'll hear these a lot in the months ahead. Along with "What? I never said that! You're delusional!" and using other personally abusive attacks when they're called on it. You know how accurate you are by how insulting they become, resorting to ad hominem tactics, just like you see in the national political arena.

Spoken like a true republican .... Your rights don't mean a GG Hock-pucky as long as corps can continue to rob us blind icon_wink.gif
2. Obama and the Democrats aren't really friends of gays, no better than Republicans when it comes to gay civil rights.
Democrats have at least been in the forefront of having gay rights legislation PASS
Can that be said for Republicans????

As far as the second part of your statement history simply doesn't bear you out

The early part of the 20th century for example pre and post Great depression
and the current starve the beast and shovel everything else into the corpration's mouths that was the Norquist Reagan Bush model
that put us where we are right now
