Sometimes I am scared by the hatred that exists towards gay people...

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/09/01/jury-deadlocked-in-california-gay-student-killing-trial/?test=latestnews#comment

Admittedly, I read foxnews on a daily basis as I find that a broad array of news sources is helpful...Unfortunately, however, the more I read this website (specifically, the comments), the more worried I am about the state of our country.

Reading the comments posted by people, the murder of a gay kid has turned into "he shouldn't have hit on the boy. he shouldn't have dressed like a girl. he had it coming. he deserved it. the murderer is the victim and should be praised for taking a stand."

I was just wondering what other people had read about this case...what their opinions on it were, and if this is just an isolated fox news phenomenon, or is the world really that scary?

I agree with you that many of the comments show a frightening trend. I'm not sure that its worse though than 20 years ago, back then there were no opportunities to express such thoughts compared to now with the internet. But the few that are so hatefilled are indeed frightening, if such people thought they could get away with violence they certainly would carry out some of their written agressions.

I do a lot of reading, and you should have read some of the locals opinions when there was a murder at a gay bar locally. The comments got so bad that the paper shut down the comment section to quell the hatred out of fear of it festering and causing the community more trouble.

Sadly, nearly everytime you read such hatefull comments, there is some statement about God and how 'he' is against the gays too. Many a religious preacher teaches that God cannot bless our Nation as long as it grants rights to gays and thereby condones homosexuality. Such preachers spread hate by their rhetoric among the ignorant parishioners.

The world really is that scary. Being able to hide behind an anonymous profile on the internet helps. Read any news story, be it about a gay murder, the latest tech toy, or what a celebrity is up to, and you read the most hateful ignorant comments. Hell, some of the posts I've read on realjock have been just as hateful and ignorant.

I hear you. Look at what and who is behind Uganda 'kill the gays' bill. It didn't start with killing gays. It started with religious leaders in America wanting to put gays in repartitive therapy. And hey! Guess who would make a lot of money through something that would just become a revolving door?

We have seen how us gays are used politically whenever a politician wants to be elected for far too long. It's only a matter of time before someone gets elected and actually tries to do something about us.

Unlike them we have pretty much been pacifists. It's only a matter of time before the powder keg explodes.

i would have thought that after Shepard things would have changed in this country. We have very short memories.
Take the GAY out of it, as many have suggested, Assault is assault, and once it reaches a certain level of damage to someone it needs to be increased to attempted murder or something.

The world is full of ignorant, fear and hateful people. They'd rather seek solice by "throwing rocks" at somebody who is unusual or different than embrace or change their mode of thinking. Changes do happen, but it's
gradual and can even occur by generation.

Is the world that scary? Yes it can be. There are also alot of good and loving people. As you live your life, be aware, be atuned and live your life to its fullest!

    Wow...

I vowed never to go to the Faux News website, but I really needed to see this for myself...

If anyone wanted to know what the term bat-shit crazy meant should go and read those comments...and they just keep coming. There are people defending this guy's actions...as if he were a Warrior sent from God to punish the gays...

Faux News, irregardless of their political or whatever views, should monitor their comments section for all news stories, but especially ones like this. The prudent thing would be to shut it down. Hate speech is hate speech and it is their responsibility to nip it when it gets out of control.

    Shame, Mr. Murdoch, shame...

What is even scarier is the gay conservatives who support the right wing hatred and intolerance against gays! Talk about self loathing!

I unfortunately come from an area of the South that is still not as tolerant towards homosexuality as many other areas....Every time i think about coming fully out, stories like this push me way back into the closet (this one practically pushes me back to Narnia). It's also stories like that that really strengthen my desire to head to a more..."accepting" area of the country.

Isn't it interesting though that the most intolerant, hate spewing gay conservatives all seem to live in blue regions of the country like Seattle, Southern California, Miami. I say come down to Winnsboro, Vidor, or Jasper Texas. Live here for a while see what type of hate you are supporting. Stop hiding among the liberals who tolerate your crap.

Intolerant hate spewing gays live everywhere and often brand themselves as liberals. Just depends on your brand of hate.

When you travel around the country and leave the gay bubbles you see how a lot of people think. It shouldnt be surprising when Gay marriage amendments passed in I think 22 states. Changing people's minds takes a long time. Although a shit ton of progress has been made.

I too frequently visit sites such as Fox "News" and I even switch from satellite radio to the AM station in the car just so I can listen to these "hell fire and brimstone" preachers. And yes, even Rush Limbaugh. I feel it keeps me on my toes in regards to where all this ignorance comes from. And each time I see a gay man in the closet, I consider him to be actively working against gay rights. ALL gay men and women need to be out and proud. And each time I see a "NO PHOTOS" profile on here it disgusts me to think how many gay men are allowing induced shame rule their lives.

Just more proof that the whole "let's be tolerant of intolerant views/people are etitled to their prejudiced opinions/what we need is to be nice and visible and let the rest take care of itself" crowd needs to STFU.

Homophobes -- and bigots of all stripes -- need to be confronted, constantly challenged, verbally abused, ridiculed, shamed, and fought (with fists) if necessary.

Until gays start taking a stand and stop being afraid to kill those who want us killed, this shit will continue...and get worse.

I think he made that phrase up...but I mean just by guessing I would assume it's the masc" gay guys who get "offended" at fem gays. The ones that demand they "act like men" and "not little pussies".

I've never seen you post anything like that so ::shurg::

I don't get too flustered anymore about sockpuppets and trolls striving deliberately to enrage and inflame others just to get their jollies. They don't care about winning arguments. In their minds, they win just by making arguments, because for once in their miserable daily existence, SOMEONE somewhere is responding to them.

The trick is not to allow free, don't-show-your-face, no-skin-off-your-back comment boards (on Faux, CNN, anywhere) to substitute as an arbiter for true public discourse.

CNN is making this mistake right now. They've been promoting, as news, mostly faux outrage on comment boards about Chaz as a contestant on DWTS, demanding responses from the producers themselves to specific comments. And they're bringing it up every half hour.

think positive and stop listening to FoxNews in the terms they know what they are talking about.

this is a good time to be gay.
