Question: What's with the whole homoerotica aspect of pledging (paddling, humiliation, etc.)? And ahead of time, I apologize if I turn an innocent rite of passage into a perverted thought, its my personaility. I call things the way I see them. ^_^

Ah ok, actually I should have probably done my research first before criticising. I go to a techinical school so frats and the like are out of the equation so I guess my first impression will be from films, lol until I actually ask about them. Ok new post then:

How are they versus to how they are percieved in movies and television?

I didn't have any hazing experience in my Fraternity.
Movies love to blow things up and make them seem worse them they really are. Does this stuff(hazing) happen in other fraternities? Hell Yes
Is it nearly as homoerotic as the movies make it out to be? No, but it can be humiliating

There will be a lot of people to follow that bash on Fraternities and whatever, that is their opinion, for me it was a great experience that I wouldn't pass up.

My fraternity was great, it made me a stronger man. Yeah there was some hazing and we got paddeled......often.

The movie you are really thinking of is "Animal House" and we had just that sceen. And it lasted much longer and occured many times. My pledge brothers were the studs of the campus, so none of us ever questioned it. We just wanted to be in that fraturnity.

Let me preface this by saying this isn't your fault at all, but sorry, you're making me cringe with the word "frat". At least with my organization, we used the term "fraternity" since the only "frat" we knew existed in the "Animal House" movie.

Or, as a brother of mine said: "Why call a fraternity a frat? You don't call your country a cunt, do you?" icon_twisted.gif

My frat kept the homoeroticism to a minimum, we were strictly drinking buddies. After graduation when everyone came out those are the only friendships that have lasted, well, one of them at least.

Pledging at Sigma Chi on the other hand was basically a prison rape fantasy come true for deeply confused, naive, and sheltered rich kids who were attracted to the hushed rumors on campus about the endless possibilities of having their bread buttered repeatedly behind closed doors. So they had way cuter freshmen at their rush parties than we ever did. M***********s.

The paddling and other things is a way for a confused person to non-sexually toy with the idea of experimenting further. Victim often becomes abuser and if he feels like he was taken advantage of as a pledge, he is really going to take it out on the next pledge class of submissives.

My brothers made me clean the house and rake the volleyball pit. Hazing? Yes, technically, but that's it.

Now, wander on over to the other side of campus, and you get fraternity brothers wrapping pledges in toilet paper and setting them on fire.

Obviously, there are extremes like with anything in life.

Well Pledging for me had all of the gay signs for me... and sometimes I thought of who came up with this stuff! But some are really out of control.

The more respectable fraternities nowadays no longer practice hazing--or they restrict it to a minimum. My fraternity hazing years ago consisted of humiliating acts (e.g., circle jerkoffs, bare ass paddling, drinking collective saliva, etc.) which, we have come to realize, do not encourage brotherhood but actually cultivate resentment, as well as engender sadomasochism. There's nothing homoerotic about drinking spit collected from 10 other pledges.

Circle Jerks? For reals? I'll be honest I think I would have liked that. lol But anywho back to the topic. Wow, theres a lot to different ways that hazing occurs. A little unorthodox, but interesting. Thx to all for replying so far (I'm starting to think I missed out, lol).

One of the fraternities used to have the entire pledge class strip naked in a room. Half would be sitting on chairs, the other half would be standing behind them rubbing their shoulders. Gay porn was playing on a huge TV in front of them. If anyone became aroused the entire room was supposed to beat them up.

That was one of the worst experiences when I told this really cute freshman I was tutoring what the house did, he did his macho "I'm not gay" huff, and he got really, really beaten up when they did that "brotherhood bonding" event.

It would appear that there is a darker side to brotherhood.

Mine either. The closest thing to hazing we had was lining up and being asked stupid questions about aviation safety. icon_lol.gif

I was a pledge in 1979....to TKE (Tau Kappa Epsilon)....I saw Animal House and pledged BECAUSE of it! LOL!...We were "hazed", but not physically beaten or abused......but we did have "strip searches", "elephant walks", and "Marshmallo Relays"....we also had pledge prank, philanthopies, parties, interviews of actives, alumni and pledges and then of course, all the women we were told to interview......I really didnt feel any of this was "homoerotic"....strangely, my BEST and longest lasting frienship is a fraternity brother....he is also gay.....we have been friends for 30 years never even considered hooking up, we are into different types! I talk to him at least daily...
