I don't get why people are always at each other's throats in various threads due to conflicting politics icon_confused.gif

Its because, when it comes to politics, people rely on childish banter to support their "claims" without actually listening to the other side to learn about them.

At the end of the day a pure republican solution is crap, same with a pure democratic solution. There is beauty in compromise that is never seen...

People are too quick to start calling each other names instead of respecting their opponent and holding discourse. Commie, libtard, racist, crazy xtian and so on. It goes both ways of course.

Politics and religion are certainly topics that people get very personal about.
Once you've developed insensitivity about certain people with opposing views, it's easier to be blunt, even rude. I have very clear political ideas and communicate them, but you can't lose track of the respect you should have for those with opposing ideas. Most on RJ (with different politics) are still my friends.... they should be treated as such, unless they prove they shouldn't be.

Because distracting ad hominem attacks nearly always work.

While I do like some on the other side of the political spectrum, I find others to be downright whores, if not skanks.

If you have more STDs than braincells, your political opinion becomes invalid.

    Just my thoughts.

politics in the USA is currently absurdly combative and the "them vs us" mentality is absurdly strong. Also, in the USA religion and politics mix much more than they ever would in europe, with the result that policy is often made on the basis of religious morality.

You can understand why that would upset some people

And trolls love it as it´s an easy bait.

Americans are very apolitical people. I think its important to be aware of politics and to have an opinion, but my vote is more important than fighting with the people on here. Especially since its obviously been going on long enough that they just throw insults at each other and have almost completely given up on constructive arguments.

For a couple reasons. Right now I think it's mostly because times are very tough for a lt of people. They're scared and looking for someone to blame and a solution. During good times, most people couldn't care less about politics.

This is also a gay forum and gay/equal rights are a hot political topic. I'm in the middle and have problems with both sides right now. I'm more towards the left currently because it seems the right keeps pandering to extremists who don't believe I should have basic human rights. They apparently aren't interested in my vote.
