I've noticed the "NO PHOTOS" guys seem to cause the most problems here. Not to mention there are reports of straight females and parents admitting they have created fake accounts to spy on our members. Just curious if there were a petition to ban unverified profiles, would you sign it?

    Hell yeah.

More like no photos. No account. Period. If you want to stay in the closet that's fine but stop raising hell with your little threads or posts that offer zero credibility except to ignite a flame war.

The keyboard and monitor done match... Wtf?

I hate to say it but requiring something like that is foolish. You can still circumvent the verification process one way or another. Plus, it takes away from being a "free for all" site.

I didnt get verified for a while, because im not out at work, and i was worried about my face being out there. But when i realized that my comparison photo could be in my private photos, and that the verification photo just went to an admin, i went ahead and did it. So a part of me would like verification if people were informed that they could do it and still not have a public face pic.

That said, i have two reservations about requoring it:

    1. Some guys might be in life situations that cause them to be so nervous about exposure that they would still not want to risk posting a face pic in any form. Accidents happen (see Wikileaks). If a guy is just coming to terms with his gayness, this site could be a great resource.

    2. All nine people on my "ignore his posts" list have faces. I'm not sure that facelessness is correlated positively with the most obnoxious among us.

    Just my $0.04...

Seeing that someone is verified may help other people when it comes to possibly meeting them to hangout, a date, a hook-up, or to trust them when it comes to advice regarding fitness.

But not everybody is here for that. If you come here just to kill time and post in general topics or to get tips for fitness, why does proving who you say you are matter? Besides, a female can still be verified, keep her photo locked, and still put out a false profile.

I don't know what forums some of you guys are accustomed to, but I've never been asked to verify myself. There are always going to be trouble starters, whether the forum requires you to verify yourself or not.

Not true. That's the whole point of verification. You must prove who you say you are. You can't put a verified pic in your locked photos, then post a fake pic. They would never allow that.

What "reports"? I never heard this before.

Nevertheless, since this is a somewhat private site, and we've got more than our share of outside disruptors here, I would support measures to more carefully screen membership to gay men only. Whether the verification process we have in place would solve the problem, I dunno.

There have been plenty of verified fakes in the past and in the present. Maybe the forums should be a "premium" service that requires payment. Or maybe create a sub-forum for paying members only.

Not just that, but it's already been on the news that in anti-gay countries, law enforcement officials create sock-puppet accounts to catch gay men and arrest them. I don't remember the link, but I remember seeing it posted here on RJ a couple months ago.

Allowing fake/anonymous profiles is dangerous, and opens the door for anti-gay crimes to take place unnoticed.

Yes, there has been fake profiles that were verified, but each step helps filter out some of those. I am sure the no pic profiles have a greater percentage of fakes than does the profiles with photos, and the verified profiles, while still having some, have even a fewer percentage of fakes.

Perhaps a solution would be when a verified member makes a thread, he can choose an option to have it only visible to other verified members. Maybe to entice more to become verified, it could even be visible to everyone on the front page and in the list of forums, but when an unverified member clicks on it, they only see a notice that they have to be a verified member to read the posts.
Also, maybe when going into chat you check a box to be visible only to verified members.

I vote for a payment service, as I would rather give money than "verifying" as others have said that could be faked.

    No.

I got verified then I took down a previous pic I used to get verified with and RJ said I'm not verified anymore. I recycle pics because like everyone else in the world I AGE. I'm not going to get reverified every time I replace a pic. Also, that doesn't make sense. If I'm verified once how is it that my identity suddenly isn't verified when I change pics?

    Perhaps there's an easier solution..
    - Use the Ignore function.
    - Grow a thick skin.

Scruffypup, recently a verified member turned out to be a fake after he made MOTD. He's no longer on the site.

This is a great idea. I also like previously suggested "graduated membership" ideas.

I think that the verification process itself is what could use a little tinkering.

I really like this idea! I don't see why we would want to pay money we don't have to, especially when they're making their money off advertisers here.
