This was implemented after Stuart kept creating multiple threads with long titles. It was becoming a problem because it took Admin awhile to get notified and delete the account and threads. I thought it worked so that if some number of members reported a message, or a particular account, using that link, the account would immediately become hidden pending Admin action. Is that correct?

I have decided to reply to this topic to say:

I don't know and have nothing to add.

I think it has to be clicked on by enough people before the account and thread are deleted. Whenever stuart/reaper makes one of his profiles, he is never deleted right away but usually a few minutes later. Since it does always happen quickly, I can't imagine it is administration doing it themselves but something automated since I think most of the time there is no one watching what is going on here.

I wasn't sure but thought the account was hidden but not actually deleted until admin sees it. Also thought the thread stayed with the "Added by a hidden/deleted member" instead of the message, which could still be seen by quoting. I guess in addition to our friend Stuart, it might also be useful if a member has been banned but doesn't want to go away willingly.

That's a worrying thing, because in issues that split the community evenly, either side could censor the other side by abusing the report spam feature.

There is a warning that if it used abusively that way, the folks doing the abusing could get their accounts deleted.

I don't think the account and thread is actually deleted until administration can review it, but instead probably just put on hold until they do. I know the reaper profiles and his threads always disappear very quickly but are probably just somewhere in limbo. That would give members too much power if they could actually gang up and delete profiles. Could you imagine? They would have run SB out of town a long time ago. You can also have your account deleted if you abuse using the spam button.
